HONOLULU — University of Hawai'i junior third baseman
Jamie McGaughey was named the Big West Field Player of the Week on Monday after helping to power the Rainbow Wahine to a series sweep at UC Riverside to cap the regular season.
McGaughey was one of UH's primary offensive catalysts in the 'Bows' sweep against the Highlanders over the weekend. McGaughey finished the series with a .600 batting average (6-for-10) while recording three home runs, a double, six runs scored and four RBI. This marks McGaughey's second weekly conference honor of the season and her career.
The highlight of the series came during Friday's doubleheader.
After launching a solo home run to help secure a 5-1 victory in Game 1, McGaughey went 4-for-4 in Game 2, belting two home runs — a two-run shot in the first inning and a solo blast in the sixth — to power Hawai'i to a 6-1 win.
In Saturday's series and regular-season finale, McGaughey remained a threat by drawing two walks, stealing a base, and scoring a run in Hawai'i's 6-1 victory.
For the series, McGaughey posted a 1.600 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage. Defensively, she was perfect in the field, recording two putouts and three assists without an error at third base.
