IRVINE, Calif. – The Hawai'i women's track and field team turned in a handful of strong performances highlighted by a new program top 10 mark on day one of the Steve Scott Invitational Friday.
Lilian Turban started off the day with a second-place finish in the high jump clearing 1.74m (5-8.5). The senior came into the day leading the Big West in the event with a height of 1.80m. Turban also came in third in the javelin with a toss of 45.02m (147-8).
Celeste Sela added her name to the Rainbow Wahine top 10, moving into ninth in UH history in the long jump with a mark of 5.86m (19-2.75). Sela placed seventh in the meet with her mark coming on her first attempt of the day.
Izzy Gorton and
Ruby Brook paced the UH distance crew, running times of 2:10.68 and 2:12.82, respectively, in the premier heat of the 800m.
Marina McNeil-Vivanco and
Valo Sopoaga rounded out the UH performances with McNeil-Vivanco throwing 46.63m (153-0) and Sopoaga 43.89m (144-0).
The Rainbow Wahine are back in action at the Steve Scott Invitational Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. HT.
