Rosenthal Named Semifinalist for AVCA Player of the Year Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Hawai'i setter Tread Rosenthal is one of eight semifinalists for the inaugural AVCA Men's Collegiate Player of the Year Award.

Rosenthal is one of only two players from the Big West Conference selected, along with Long Beach State's Skyler Varga. UCLA leads the way with three semifinalists, followed by one each from Pepperdine, Ball State, and USC.

Four finalists will be named prior to the 2026 National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship. The Player of the Year winner will be announced on Friday, May 8, in Los Angeles at an awards banquet held before the national semifinals.

A first-team AVCA All-American last season, the Austin, Texas, native currently ranks second nationally in assists per set (11.01 avg.) while directing the nation's No. 2-ranked offense. He has also been named Big West Setter of the Week 10 times this season.

A Rainbow Warrior has been named AVCA Player of the Year five times in program history. Costas Theocharidis is the school's only two-time winner (2001 and 2003), while Yuval Katz became the school's first recipient in 1996. In recent years, Rado Parapunov earned the honor in 2021, and Jakob Thelle was the winner in 2023.
