TROPICAL SWARM
The Rainbow Warrior pitching staff remains among the national leaders in several statistical categories. UH leads the Big West and ranks seventh nationally with a 3.34 ERA. The 'Bows also rank in the top 20 nationally in WHIP (12th), hits allowed per nine innings (17th) and opponent batting average (19th). Additionally, Hawai'i has held opponents to three or fewer runs in 16 of the 29 games and limited them to six or fewer hits 12 times.
LOOKING TO BREAK A TREND
UH enters its final meeting with UC Irvine as Big West rivals looking to snap a nine-game losing streak against the Anteaters. UCI has dominated the all-time series between the schools, holding a 45-14 advantage. Since 2019, the Rainbow Warriors are 3-17 against UC Irvine and have not won a series against them since 2018. Since joining the conference in 2013, the 'Bows have taken a series from UCI only twice and hold an 8-30 record against the Anteaters in Big West play.
STARTING TO SWING IT
Hawai'i has started to heat up offensively in recent games after struggling to find a rhythm throughout the season. UH is hitting .283 over the last five games with double-digit hits and six or more runs scored in four of those contests. Prior to this recent five-game stretch, the Rainbow Warriors were hitting .227 as a team and averaging just 4.5 runs and 7.3 hits per game.
»
Tate Shimao is hitting .438 over the last 10 games with five doubles.
» Shimao also leads the team in hitting in conference games with a .320 batting average and seven doubles with nine RBIs.
»
Ben Zeigler-Namoa has hit safely in his last eight games, batting .391 over that stretch.
»
Josh Martin has started four of the last five games and is 5-for-12 (.417) with a .563 OBP and three RBIs during that span.
MAGINIFICENT MAGS
Isaiah Magdaleno has solidified himself as one of the elite arms on the West Coast through the first half of the season. The junior made the move from closer last year, to Friday night starter this year and has posted a 2.61 ERA over 51.2 innings with 61 strikeouts to just 17 walks in eight starts. Magdaleno has worked at least five innings in all eight outings and has given up just 32 hits all year while holding opponents to a .179 batting average.
» Second in the Big West in hits allowed/9 innings and WHIP; third in the conference in strikeouts.
» Went six innings and gave up just a run on three hits with five strikeouts in last outing at UC San Diego.
» Has pitched at least six innings in each of his last four starts, and has delivered a quality start in six of his eight outings, working seven or more innings three times.
