Head Coach: Brittney Matta (Second Season)
UH Record vs. UCR: UH leads 38-10
Streak: UH won two

Last Week: UC Riverside fell in their series opener at Cal State Bakersfield. The Roadrunners won the first game, 2-0. The Highlanders split their Saturday doubleheader, winning Game 2, 7-1. CSUB won Sunday's rubber game to clinch the series, 5-1.
HAWAI'I RAINBOW WAHINE (26-18, 18-6 Big West)
Head Coach: Panita Thanatharn (First Season)
Hawai'i/Career Record: 26-18
Last Week: The Rainbow Wahine swept Cal Poly in their final home series of the year. The 'Bows won both games of Friday's doubleheader in mercy-rule, walk-off fashion by the score of 8-0. Then in the series finale on Senior Day, UH rallied to erase a 2-0 deficit with a fifth inning, 2-RBI single by
Jamie McGaughey to tie the game. In the seventh, UH loaded the bases on two errors and an intentional walk to McGaughey which led to a walk-off, walk to clinch the win, 3-2 and the series sweep.
NEWS & NOTESLast Week - Hawai'i recorded their third straight conference series sweep, defeating Cal Poly 8-0, 8-0, and 3-2 in their final homestand of 2026. Over the three-games, Hawaii outscored the Mustangs, 19–2. UH was led by three dominant pitching performances and timely hitting. UH has outscored its last three Big West opponents, 65-17 during their nine-game conference win streak.
Game 1 - DH -G1 - Hawai'i 8, Cal Poly 0 (6 innings)
Hawai'i opened the series with a six-inning, run-rule performance.
Briana Maio-Silva headlined the offense with a two-run home run in the third inning. Starting pitcher
Taryn Irimata was nearly flawless, firing a one-hit, complete-game shutout with no walks across six innings of work. It marked Irimata's fourth complete-game shutout in her last five appearances. The UH offense totaled 12 hits in the opener, including multi-hit performances from
Maycen Gibbs, Millie Fidge, and
Carys Murakami.
Game 2 - DH-G2 - Hawai'i 8, Cal Poly 0 (5 innings)
UH swept the doubleheader to win the series on Friday. The 'Bows blew the game open with a four-run third inning, highlighted by
Cierra Yamamoto's bases-clearing, three-RBI double.
Milan Ah Yat added a solo home run, while pitcher Maryn MacNeil dominated in the circle, throwing a one-hit shutout over five innings to earn her first collegiate win.
Game 3 - Hawai'i 3, Cal Poly 2
In the series finale, Hawai'i started all seven seniors. UH secured the series sweep in dramatic fashion when
Milan Ah Yat drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to score
Larissa Goshi for the 3–2 walk-off win.
Jamie McGaughey provided the primary offensive spark earlier in the game, hitting a two-run single in the fifth inning to knot the score at 2-2. Senior pitcher
Hannah Pitts earned the win, tossing a complete game and allowing only four hits.
MacNeil Named Big West Freshman of the Week - Rookie pitcher Maryn MacNeil earned Big West Freshman of the Week honors after tossing a complete-game, one-hit shutout against Cal Poly to earn her first collegiate win in the first start of the season. MacNeil helped lead Hawai'i to an 8-0 win in five innings in the second game of Friday's doubleheader. She allowed Cal Poly's lone hit in the fourth inning and evened her record to 1-1 overall. She allowed just two baserunners in five innings pitched while limiting the Mustangs to a .071 batting average. MacNeil is the first UH player to be named Big West Freshman of the Week since Keyannah Campbell-Pua (Feb. 20, March 13) and Millie Fidge (Feb. 27) earned the award in 2023.
Winninng Keys - The team is 23-2 when leading or tied after four innings and 23-1 when out-hitting their opponents. Conversely Hawai'i is 3-16 when trailing after four frames and 2-16 when out-hit. UH's most productive inning has been the fifth, as they have outscored opponents 47-to-27. But UH has also been able to get off to quick starts, outscoring their foes, 69-to-38 in the first two innings
Pitching & Defense - Hawai'i's success can be attributed to its pitching staff and its defense. Overall, UH is ranked fifth in the BW with a .290 team batting average. But, It is ranked second in both pitching and defense in the Big West behind Cal State Fullerton. UH's pitchers have an overall staff ERA of 3.34 and defensively, UH has a .971 fielding percentage. In conference games, UH's offense is ranked third with a .326 team batting average and their pitching has an ERA of 2.51 (3rd), but the defense is ranked first in fielding percentage at .983.
Speed on the Basepaths - Part of Thanatharn's philosphy is having UH's offense always looking for that extra base — whether its by stolen base, passed ball or taking advantage on a defensive miscue. In stolen bases alone, UH has swiped 49 of 60 bases this season — compared to 21 all of last season. A total of 12 different Rainboiw Wahine have stolen at least one base this season, with sophomore outfielder
Rhea Furtado leading the way with 14.
ANCHORS OF THE TEAM - Only four Rainbow Wahine have started all 44 games for Hawai'i this season. Ah Yat (shortstop) and Gibbs (centerfield) are the only two to start all 44 at the same position. Murakami has made 23 starts at third base and 21 at second, while McGaughey has made 32 starts at first base and 12 at third base.
CATCHING CAROUSEL – The departure of last year's Big West Defensive Player of the Year,
Izabella Martinez, has left a void for the 'Bows to fill. Martinez, who graduated last year, was a four-year starter behind the plate. This year, four different Rainbow Wahine have started at catcher. Junior
Keely Kai has 15 starts to lead the cavalcade of catchers. Sophomore
Kolbi Kochi has started 14 games behind the plate and nine games as the designated player. Freshman
Bailey Nagasako has nine starts at catcher and 11 as the DP, while senior
Cierra Yamamoto has started six games at catcher and three in left field.
HAWAI'I STRONG - Just over half of Hawai'i's roster hails from the Aloha State. A total of 13 of UH's 24 players stayed or have returned home to don the Green & White. With Irimata starting in the circle, the Rainbow Wahine have had as many as eight local players in the starting lineup. Ten players come to UH from the island of O'ahu, with two from Maui and one from Kaua'i.
Conference Realignment - After 14 years in the Big West, the Rainbow Wahine and most other UH athletic programs will move to the Mountain West Conference starting in the fall of 2026. The move will expand the conference's reach to include members such as Air Force, Grand Canyon, and UTEP. Beach volleyball, men's volleyball, and women's water polo will remain in the Big West.
Offensive Pillars - The Hawai'i offense has been a multi-headed attack that was solidified when UH inserted Millie Fidge, who was primarily used as a pitcher for her first three years. That allowed
Jamie McGaughey to shift across the field to play at third and move Murakami back to play second.
- Junior third/first baseman Jamie McGaughey is the cornerstone of the lineup, leading the team with a .387 average, 11 home runs, and 38 RBI. Her ability to produce in high-pressure moments is unmatched, leading the team with 16 multiple-hit games and 12 multiple-RBI game. With runners in scoring position, she is hitting .432 (19-for-44) and with runners at third and less than two outs, McGaughey is batting .900 (9-for-10).
- Senior first base/pitcher Millie Fidge has emerged as a dual-threat force who leads the team in batting average (.394) and slugging (.704) among regular starters, providing a lethal spark in the middle of the order. In just 20 starts, Fidge has recorded career highs in runs (11), hits (28), doubles (5), home runs (5) and on-base percentage (.434). Pitching wise, Fidge has a career record of 7-7 and has thrown 153.1 total innings.
- Senior second/third baseman Carys Murakami has been the team's primary run-scorer, crossing the plate a team-high 30 times and she is third on the team with six stolen bases. Although she has moved from the top to the middle of the lineup, she has continued to produce. She is second on the team with 11 multiple-hit games and is also second with 17 walks. Murakami leads UH with five sacrifice bunts.
- Senior centerfielder Maycen Gibbs has been a model of consistency, starting all 44 games in center and maintaining a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. Offensively, Gibbs has been steady all season, hitting .271 with career highs in runs (27), hits (36), RBI (28), home runs (6) and ranks second on the team with seven stolen bases.
The Rotation
- Taryn Irimata (So., RHP): Irimata is one of UH's two main starting pitchers. She enters this week with an 11-7 record and a team-leading 110.0 innings pitched. She boasts a 2.29 ERA and has struck out 74 batters. She leads the staff with 12 complete games and has posted five shutouts. Last week in the series opener vs. Cal Poly she fired a one-hit, complete game, six-inning shutout. It marked her fourth shutout in her last five appearances. Irimata is ranked No. 15 in NCAA Division I with five shutouts for the season.
- Hannah Pitts (Sr., RHP): An efficient starter, Pitts matches Irimata with 11 wins. Overall, the Auburn, Ala., native has a 2.66 ERA in 100.0 innings pitched. She has 22 walks with 47 strikeouts. Last week on Senior Day, Pitts earned a complete-game win as UH came back to down Cal Poly 3-2.
