Magdaleno Named National Pitcher of the Year Semifinalist

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Hawai'i right-handed pitcher Isaiah Magdaleno earned a spot as a semifinalist for the 2026 National Pitcher of the Year Award, the College Baseball Foundation announced Wednesday.

Magdaleno has established himself as one of the elite arms on the West Coast after making the move from closer last year to Friday night starter this season. The junior currently boasts a stellar 2.37 ERA over 60.2 innings of work, racking up 71 strikeouts while issuing just 26 walks in his 10 starts.

Beyond his impressive overall ERA, Magdaleno's ability to limit base runners ranks among the best in the country. He ranks second in the Big West and 12th nationally in hits allowed per nine innings at just 5.64. Additionally, he sits second in the conference and 14th nationally by holding opposing batters to a minuscule .179 average.

Magdaleno has delivered consistent quality outings for the Rainbow Warriors, pitching at least five innings in nine of his 10 starts. Hawai'i has played well behind him, posting a 7-3 record in his starts and holding opponents to an average of just 3.0 runs in those contests. Furthermore, he has locked down opposing lineups by allowing two or fewer runs in each of his last six starts.

A total of 43 of the nation's best collegiate hurlers were selected as semifinalists for the award, reflecting the top mound performers to this point of the 2026 season. Magdaleno is one of three Big West pitchers featured on the semifinalist list, joining Jackson Flora of UC Santa Barbara and Mikiah Negrete of Cal State Fullerton.
