HONOLULU—University of Hawai'i attacker Ema Vernoux was named the Big West Women's Water Polo Player of the Week on Wednesday following a standout performance against No. 3 USC.
The honor marks Vernoux's second career selection and her first since Feb. 26, 2025. The sophomore matched her season high with five goals (.625 shooting percentage) and tallied one assist and one steal against the Trojans on March 18 at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
Vernoux helped UH establish an early lead with a first-quarter goal and extended the advantage with a penalty shot early in the second quarter. After USC rallied, Vernoux delivered another penalty shot to tie the match at 7-7 and complete her fifth hat trick of the season. She scored back-to-back goals later in the third quarter to help the 'Bows keep pace in the shootout before falling to the Trojans 14-13.
The sophomore leads the team with 106 career goals and 138 points, and has recorded at least five goals in four career matches.
No. 6 UH returns to action against UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, March 28 at 6:00 p.m. at the DKAC.
