Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

Water Polo Falls to Cal in NCAA Quarterfinals

LA JOLLA, Calif. — The fifth-seeded University of Hawai'i women's water polo team concluded the 2026 season with a 15-10 loss to fourth-seeded California in the quarterfinals of the National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Championship on Friday afternoon at the Canyonview Aquatic Center in La Jolla, Calif.

The Big West champion Rainbow Wahine (16-6) closed James Robinson's second season as head coach by making the program's third consecutive NCAA Championship appearance and 10th overall.

Sophomore Agatha Weston led the Hawai'i attack with five goals — tying the program's second highest total in an NCAA Championship match — and three steals. Weston's performance marked her third game of the season scoring five or more goals and she closed the season leading the team with 56 goals and 34 steals.

Weston's five goals matched Anna Sieprath's total against UC Davis in the 2005 NCAA Championship and was one shy of the program's tournament record set by Elyse Lemay-Lavoie against Cal in 2019.

Sophomore Ema Vernoux contributed two goals and two assists, while senior Roni Perlman had three assists to raise her season total to a team-high 40. Seniors Camille Radosavljevic and Alia Burlock also contributed goals in their final match for the Rainbow Wahine.

In the cage, goalkeeper Daisy Logtens recorded 11 saves in her 10th double-digit performance of the season to finish her junior year with a total of 168 saves.

Cal (15-7) was led by Rosalie Hassett and Eszter Varro, who had three goals each, and defeated UH for the fourth time this season to advance to the national semifinals. The Bears will face No. 1 seed Stanford on Saturday.

Hawai'i shot .263 (10-for-38) from the field compared to California's .417 (15-for-36). The 'Bows converted 4-of-8 power play opportunities while limiting the Golden Bears to a 2-of-6 mark on their player advantages.

Cal opened the scoring 26 seconds into the match. Weston answered with a penalty shot, but Cal responded with two consecutive goals to build a 3-1 advantage. Weston netted two more goals before the period ended, securing a first-quarter hat trick, but Hawai'i trailed 5-3 at the break.

UH freshman Ariadna Temprano Xambó and Vernoux both capitalized on power play opportunities in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to a single goal on two separate occasions. But California answered each Hawai'i score, allowing the Bears to take a 7-5 lead into halftime.

Cal extended its lead early in the third quarter before senior Radosavljevic found the back of the net for Hawai'i to make it 8-6. After another Golden Bear score, Weston tallied her fourth goal of the game at the 1:36 mark, but Cal took a 10-7 advantage into the final period.

Cal outscored the Rainbow Wahine 5-3 in the fourth quarter to pull away. Vernoux, Weston, and Burlock each scored for UH in the final quarter to close out the season.
