Men's Volleyball Hosts No. 8 UC Santa Barbara In Top 10 Match-up

HONOLULU – The second-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team continues Big West play with a two-match series against No. 8 UC Santa Barbara, Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28 at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Warriors (19-3, 2-0 BWC) moved up a spot in the AVCA Top 20 poll after sweeping a two-match series with then-No. 2 Long Beach State last week in Long Beach, Calif. The No. 2 ranking is Hawai'i's highest since the preseason poll.

·       In honor of this special night, portions of the match will be announced in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi!

Saturday, March 28 – Volleypaws Night/Easter Celebration
Altres is the proud sponsor of Saturday's Volleypaws Night and Easter Celebration. You're in for a treat as we celebrate our four-legged fans in honor of "National Pet Day." But that's not all!
·       Altres is hosting an exclusive Easter Egg Hunt in the arena prior to the match. Join in the fun for a chance to score awesome prizes!
·       Stick around after the match for your final opportunity this season to meet the Rainbow Warrior volleyball team during an autograph session at Gate B.
·       The recipients of the Charlie Ushijima Award and Kāne Fernandez Award will be honored during intermission.
 
In addition, UH Athletics, in partnership with Food Vault Hawaiʻi, will host a food drive during both Friday's and Saturday's matches. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food and toiletry items to drop-off locations near Gate A or the parking stalls fronting the main Athletics Complex building.

  • UH leads the all-time series with UC Santa Barbara, 64-38 including a 33-16 advantage in Honolulu.
  • UH has a 12-match home win streak in the series dating back to 2015. UCSB's last win in Honolulu was during the 2013 campaign, when they won both matches.
  • UH saw its 20-match overall win streak in the series snapped last season in Santa Barbara. It was UCSB's first win since 2016 when the schools were members of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
  • Hawai'i is 13-1 all-time against the Gauchos in Big West regular season matches.
  • The 102 matches in the series is second-most against one opponent in UH history behind the 105 matches in the UH-Long Beach State series.
  • UH head coach Charlie Wade is 24-11 against the Gauchos since taking over the program in 2010.
  • In Friday's win at Long Beach State, Hawai'i snapped an 11-match road losing streak in the series dating back to 2017. UH's sweep of the two-match series was its first in Long Beach since 2015.
  • UH is on the verge of its 15th 20-win season in program history and fifth straight. Head coach Charlie Wade has guided the team to seven 20-win seasons.
  • UH's next win at Bankoh Arena will be its 400th all-time victory in the facility since 1995. Hawai'i's all-time record at Bankoh Arena is 399-121.
  • UCSB (10-7, 2-1) was idle last week after splitting a two-match series with UC Irvine, with each team defending its homecourt. Prior to the making the trip to Honolulu, the Gauchos will host California Lutheran on Tuesday at The Thunderdome.
