IRVINE, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team captured three of the four Big West Player of the Week awards following the team's two-match sweep of No. 2 Long Beach State last week in Long Beach, Calif.
Junior
Louis Sakanoko was named Offensive Player of the Week, junior
Quintin Greenidge was Defensive Player of the Week, and junior
Tread Rosenthal earned Setter of the Week. The award marked Sakanoko's second of the season and third of his career. Greenidge was honored for the third time this season while Rosenthal picked up his eighth setter award this season – fourth straight – and 13
th of his career. In all, Rosenthal has won 20 career Big West weekly awards.
The three award winners now bring UH's total Big West weekly award count to 20 this season double the team with the second-most (UC Irvine, 10).
The Rainbow Warriors (19-3, 2-0 BWC) moved up a spot in this week's AVCA Top 20 poll and will host No. 8 UC Santa Barbara Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28 at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
Louis Sakanoko, Offensive Player of the Week
Averaged 3.83 kills per set in a pair of wins over No. 2 Long Beach State in Long Beach … hit .571 for the series with only three attack errors in 35 attempts … also averaged 1.00 digs per set and 0.67 blocks per set and also served two aces … had only one reception error in 26 receive attempts … was nearly unstoppable in the rematch with a team-high 15 kills, hitting at a .619 clip with one ace, two digs, and three blocks in a straight-set win … played the first three sets of the series opener before succumbing to cramps and sat out the last two sets …. posted eight kills, hitting .500 with one ace, four digs, and one block in UH's five-set win.
Quintin Greenidge, Defensive Player of the Week
Anchored UH's backrow in a pair of wins over No. 2 Long Beach State in Long Beach … allowed only one ace in a team-high 45 combined reception attempts … against the nation's top serving team, UH allowed only nine aces in the two matches (1.13 avg.), well below LBSU's 2.80 aces per set average entering the weekend … shared team-high honors with 12 digs (1.50 avg.) … in the series opener, did not commit a reception error in a team-high 34 attempts … also had five assists.
Tread Rosenthal, Setter of the Week
Directed an offense to a combined .349 hitting percentage in a pair of wins over No. 2 Long Beach State in Long Beach … averaged 8.50 assists per set along with 1.25 kills per set, 1.13 digs per set, and 0.88 blocks per set … also had one ace … in the series opener, posted 35 assists, a season-high seven kills, one ace, three digs, and five blocks in a five-set win … in the rematch, tallied 33 assists, three kills, six digs, and two blocks.
