RENO, Nev. – Highlighted by two more individual titles, the Hawai'i women's track and field team turned in a runner-up finish at the MPSF Championships Tuesday.
The second-place finish matches the best-ever indoor conference championship finish for the Rainbow Wahine, tying 2024's runner-up and a second-place finish at the 2008 WAC Indoor Championships. It's also the fifth consecutive year that UH has finished in the top four at the MPSF Championships.
Lilian Turban continued to add to her trophy case, winning her second individual title of the meet with a victory in the shot put. The senior put up a personal best mark of 15.02m (49-3.5) on her fourth attempt to move into first place and add 10 points to the Rainbow Wahine total.
Rose Forshaw came in fourth with a toss of 13.72m (45-0.25) and
Samaria Vital placed eighth with a throw of 13.54m (44-5.25) to give UH 16 points in the event.
Turban now has eight career individual conference titles in her career between indoor and outdoor, having won the MPSF indoor high jump title four times, the Big West outdoor high jump title twice, and the indoor and outdoor shot put crowns once each.
Tara Wyllie claimed her third consecutive MPSF indoor triple jump title, breaking her own indoor school record with a mark of 13.08m (42-11). She sat in second place heading into her final attempt and came through with the championship-winning jump with a huge PR, topping her previous personal best by 0.42m. Wyllie has now won four combined conference triple jump titles including outdoor.
The Rainbow Wahine started the day by putting up 12 points in the 60m hurdles.
Robyn Larkan turned in a runner-up finish with a time of 8.54 to add eight points to the team total while Wyllie added four points with a fifth-place finish in 8.64 seconds.
Isabella Kneeshaw placed fifth in the 400m with a time of 54.88 and
Nora Fischer came in seventh with a 55.58 to total six points in the event while the UH 4x400m relay team closed the meet with a fifth-place finish in 3:46.26.
The Rainbow Wahine will now wait to see if any of its athletes achieved marks to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships before turning their attention to outdoor season beginning Mar. 13 at the Aztec Coastal Track Classic.
