IRVINE, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team captured two of the Big West's Player of the Week awards after a two-match series sweep of No. 6 BYU last week in Honolulu.
Junior
Louis Sakanoko was named Offensive Player of the Week and junior
Tread Rosenthal was Setter of the Week. For Sakanoko, it marked his first weekly award this season and second of his career while Rosenthal earned his fifth setter award this season and 10
th of his career.
The three honorees now bring UH's total Big West weekly award count to 14 this season.
UH (14-1) continues its homestand this week with a pair of matches against Pepperdine, March 4 and 6 at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
Louis Sakanoko, Offensive Player of the Week
Tallied 30 kills (4.29 avg.), hitting .436 in a two-match series sweep of No. 6 BYU … also recorded 11 digs (1.57 avg.), three aces (0.43 avg.), and three blocks (0.43) … posted 15 kills in each of the two matches … hit .433 in the opener with three aces, six digs, and one block … led the team with 15 kills in the rematch, hitting .440 with five digs and two blocks in a straight-set win … has 10+ kills in six matches this season.
Tread Rosenthal, Setter of the Week
Averaged 11.14 assists per set and led UH to a pair of wins over No. 6 BYU … directed an offense that hit .455 for the series - .451 in the opener and .446 in the rematch … also recorded seven kills (1.00 avg.), four aces (0.57 avg.), 11 digs (1.57 avg.), and four blocks (0.57 avg.) … had 46 assists, three kills, six digs, and three blocks in a four-set win on Wednesday … followed with 32 assists, three kills, four aces, five digs, and one block in the rematch … his four aces tied a career high.
