WALNUT, Calif. — University of Hawai'i women's basketball head coach
Laura Beeman returned to the campus where she embarked on her career as one of the honorees inducted into the Mt. San Antonio College Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday in Walnut, Calif.
Beeman attended the Hall of Fame Banquet at Heritage Hall on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College, where she began her head coaching career in 1994. She spent 15 seasons at Mt. SAC and led the Mounties to four California Community College State Championships (2004, '06, '07, '08) and 10 South Coach Conference titles. Mt. SAC compiled a record of 390-110 (.780) during Beeman's tenure and qualified for the postseason each year. Over that span, more than 100 players went on to four-year colleges and the program maintained a 96% matriculation rate.
Beeman moved on to professional basketball as an assistant coach with the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks (2008-09) and returned to college coaching as an assistant at USC (2010-12). In 2012, she was hired as the eighth head coach in UH women's basketball history and is now in her 14
th season leading the Rainbow Wahine. Beeman has guided the 'Bows to three Big West Championship titles, four regular-season crowns and nine postseason berths, including three NCAA Tournament appearances. She's earned four Big West Coach of the Year awards and ranks second in program history in wins and years of service.
