IRVINE, Calif. – University of Hawai'i men's volleyball captured three of the Big West's Player of the Week awards after a dominant two-match sweep of No. 18 Stanford last week in Stanford, Calif.
Sophomore
Kainoa Wade was named Offensive Player of the Week, junior
Quintin Greenidge was Defensive Player of the Week, and junior
Tread Rosenthal was Setter of the Week. For Wade, it marked his second award in three weeks while Rosenthal won the setter award for the fourth time this season and ninth time in his career. Greenidge was recognized for the first time.
The three honorees now bring UH's total Big West weekly award count to 12 this season.
UH (12-1) is idle this week before beginning a seven-match homestand next week against BYU, Feb. 25 and 27 at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
Kainoa Wade, Offensive Player of the Week
Averaged 4.50 kills per set and 5.00 points per set in a pair of straight-set wins over No. 18 Stanford … led the team in kills both matches - 12 kills, hitting .588 in the opener and 15 kills, hitting .737 in the rematch … only had three attack errors in 36 combined attempts in the two matches … also had two aces, three digs, and two blocks in the series ... has started eight of the last nine matches at opposite and recorded double-digit kills in six of those matches ... during those starts, is averaging 4.76 kills per set, hitting .483, and 5.56 points per set with 12 aces.
Quintin Greenidge, Defensive Player of the Week
Averaged 3.17 digs per set in a pair of straight-set wins over No. 18 Stanford … tallied seven digs in the opener and 12 digs - one off his season-high - in the rematch … anchored a defensive backrow that allowed only five aces in six sets.
Tread Rosenthal, Setter of the Week
Led the team to a combined .474 hitting percentage in a pair of straight-set wins over No. 18 Stanford … averaged 12.50 assists per set and led the team to 14.50 kills per set average … also averaged 1.17 digs per set and 0.50 blocks per set in the series … dished out 38 assists and led the team to .515 hitting in the opener, along with two aces, three digs, and two blocks … had 37 assists and directed the offense to a .442 clip with one ace, four digs, and one block in the rematch.
