RENO, Nev./SEATTLE – The Hawai'i women's track and field team closed out its split squad weekend at the Battle Born Classic and Husky Classic with more strong performances Saturday, highlighted by
Isabella Kneeshaw's school record in the 400m.
Kneeshaw broke her own program indoor 400m record for the third time in as many tries this year, running 54.37 to shatter her previous best of 55.03. She finished fourth in the field at the Battle Born Classic and is now a full second faster than anyone else in UH history.
The junior from Tualatin, Ore. also posted the second-best indoor 200m time in program history by running 24.03 to top her previous personal best by .24 seconds. Kneeshaw now trails only Alyssa Mae Antolin (23.54) in the indoor 200m.
Lilian Turban paced the Rainbow Wahine throwers in Reno, moving up to fifth in UH history in the shot put with a personal best throw of 14.51m (47-7.25) to place fifth in the meet.
Rose Forshaw improved on her 10
th-best indoor shot put mark at UH with toss of 14.02m (46-0), finishing eighth in the meet.
Turban also took home the Battle Born Classic win in the high jump, clearing a season-best height of 1.82m (5-11.5). She cleared both 1.79m and 1.82m on her third and final try at both heights to seal the win. Freshman
Lisa Martensson also turned in a season best in the high jump, clearing 1.74m (5-8.5) to better her ninth-best indoor high jump mark in UH history.
Izzy Gorton led the way for the group of Rainbow Wahine at the Husky Classic, nearly breaking the UH record in the indoor 800m with a time of 2:08.70. The senior now sits in second all-time at Hawai'i in the event, just .24 seconds behind Kelly Young's 21-year old record of 2:08.46.
The Rainbow Wahine return home to prep for the MPSF Indoor Championships, set for Mar. 1-2 in Reno, Nev.
