For the second consecutive year, the University of Hawai'i women's golf team will open its spring season in Palm Desert, Calif., with the Alice and John Wallace Classic, which runs Saturday, Feb. 14 through Monday, Feb. 16 at Monterey Country Club.
The 16-team tournament is hosted by Long Beach State and is headlined by No. 2 USC, No. 10 Vanderbilt, and No. 11 UCLA. Also competing are Boise State, California, Denver, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Hawai'i, Eastern Michigan, New Mexico, Northern Arizona, San Jose State, UC Riverside, and Washington.
Teams will play 18 holes each day with an 8:00 a.m. PT shotgun start at the 6,108-yard, par-71 course. UH will be paired with San Jose State and Boise State in opening round.
Hawai'i, which tied for 12
th at the same event last season, will send a contingent of
Jasmine Wong,
Maline Kraus,
Chloe Ku,
Emiko Sverduk, and
Sofina Firouzi.
Kaydence Kim will be competing as an individual. Kraus was UH's top finisher, tying for 27
th place at 6-over 219. Sverduk tied for 44
th place at 10-over 223.
The tournament is the sixth for the Rainbow Wahine this season. Wong sports a team-best 74.33 scoring average in the fall and was the team's top finisher in two events, including at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational where she carded a 2-over 218 total. Kraus was the top finisher in two other fall tournaments and has a 74.57 per round average.
UH's spring season includes five tournaments, including the Big West Championships, April 19-21 in Kā'anapali, Maui. Hawai'i will also host the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational presented by OUTRIGGER, March 17-18 at the Kāne'ohe Klipper Golf Course.
