NEWS & NOTES
- The Rainbow Wahine under first year head coach Panita Thanatharn got off to a hot start, winning their first four games before falling in the Bank of Hawai'i Paradise Classic finale to Seattle U, 9-3 this past Saturday.
- Sophomore transfer pitcher Taryn Irimata was named Big West Pitcher of the Week after firing a pair of complete game win. She recorded a 1.00 ERA in 14.0 innings while holding opponents to a .145 batting average. Irimata walked four and struck out nine. She began her collegiate career at Nevada in 2024 but an injury suffered early in her true freshman year held her out of commission through 2025. Her opening start for Uh against Seattle U was her first time in the circle since 2023.
- Junior Milan Ah Yat started all five games at shortstop and led UH on offense with a .385 batting average..She also led the 'Bows with five hits and was one of three Rainbow Wahine to score three runs, and one of seven UH players to drive in two runs. In the first inning of the season opener vs. SeattleU, Ah Yat drove in two runs in the first and that was all Irimata needed as the 'Bows held off the Red Hawks, 2-1.
- Local girls making impact - In UH's second game vs. the Pacific Tigers, UH had a total of six Hawai'i players in the startng line-up. Beginning with pitcher Taryn Irimata, catcher Cierra Yamamoto, second baseman Carys Mirakami, shortstop Milan Ah Yat, third baseman Maya Ichimura, and rightfielder Rhea Furtado.
- Senior designated player Ellyanna Cinzori finished second on the team with a .364 average (3-for 11) scoring three runs with a double and two RBI.
- Senior relief pitcher Millie Fidge came in UH's first game vs. Pacific throwing five shutout innings to earn the win. She spaced two hits and shut down the Tigers, giving up three walks with five strikeouts.
- Senior transfer pitcher Hannah Pitts made her Rainbow Wahine debut, tossing a complete game win over North Dakota. She allowed two runs on three hits with no walks and five strikeouts. Pitts also started the tournament finale against SeattleU but took the loss, giving up five runs on five hits with two walks and a strikeout in 2-2/3 innings pitched.
- The lone freshman to crack the starting lineup for the opening week was leftfielder Abby Sasaki. Sasaki, a native of Orange County, Calif. made some nice plays in the outfield while recording some timely hits to drive in two runs.
- Finding a replacement for four-year starting catcher and Big West Defensive Player of the Year, Izabella Martinez continues. Cierra Yamamoto started three games, Keely Kai started two and Kolbi Kochi saw action behind the plate in a pair of games.
