Women's Basketball Opens Road Trip at CSU Bakersfield

HONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team will look to build on the momentum of a homestand sweep when the Rainbow Wahine take on CSU Bakersfield on Thursday, Jan. 22 at the Icardo Center in Bakersfield, Calif., to open a two-game road trip. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. Pacific Time (4:30 p.m. Hawai'i Time).
 
The Rainbow Wahine enjoyed a breakthrough week at home with a 40-point win over Cal Poly and a 17-point victory over UC Santa Barbara for their first two Big West wins of the season. Following Thursday's matchup with the Roadrunners, the 'Bows will head to Northridge, Calif., to face CSUN on Saturday in the back end of the road trip.

'BOWS NOTES
  • UH's freshman guard combo of Bailey Flavell and Keiara Curtis sparked the 'Bows' offense in last week's sweep. Flavell tied her season high with 22 points against Cal Poly and Curtis set a season best with 19 points against UC Santa Barbara.
  • Flavell continues to lead the 'Bows with 13.4 points per game and has scored in double figures in 13 games. She's averaging a team-high 15 points per game in conference play.
  • Curtis has scored in double digits in each of the last seven games and is averaging 12.3 points per game in Big West contests. She shot 58.3% from the field last week and moved into the team lead with 24 3-pointers.
  • Senior forward Imani Perez leads the Big West and ranks 22nd nationally with 2.06 blocked shots per game. She ranks second in the conference with 33 total blocks this season. She also leads the team with 6.4 rebounds per game.
  • As a team, UH leads the Big West and rose to sixth in the nation with 6.2 blocks per game. UH rate of blocked shots is ahead of the program record of 5.6 set in the 2004-05 season.
  • With Flavell and Curtis leading the way, UH's six true freshmen have contributed 50.6% of the team's scoring total.
  • Senior forward Saniyah Neverson hit a career-high three 3-pointers against UC Santa Barbara and is shooting 58.2% from the field in Big West contests to rank second in the conference.

  • The Rainbow Wahine and Roadrunners meet for the 20th time in a series that began on Nov. 21, 2009, a 105-75 CSUB win. The game remains the last time a UH opponent scored 100-plus points.
  • UH has won the last 11 meetings with CSUB, starting with an 81-67 win on March 10, 2021 in the quarterfinals of the Big West Championship in Las Vegas.
  • CSUB last defeated UH on Jan. 16, 2021, 51-43 in Bakersfield.
  • UH is 5-5 against CSUB in Bakersfield and won last year's meeting at the Icardo Center 66-37.
  • Ari Wideman is in her second season as the Roadrunners' head coach and has a record of 8-40. Wideman played at Nevada from 2010-14 and competed against UH when both schools were members of the Western Athletic Conference.
  • The Roadrunners dropped both ends of road trip last week with losses at UC Santa Barbara (82-67) and UC San Diego (84-66).
  • Sophomore guard Crishawn Coleman ranks fourth in the Big West with 17.4 points per game and second with 313 total points with a high of 29 against UC Irvine on Jan. 1. Coleman leads the conference with 269 field-goal attempts.
  • Center/forward Tena Ikidi ranks second in the conference with 148 total rebounds and third with 8.2 rebounds per game.
  • CSUB assistant coach Fa-Ko-Fiame'a Hafoka-Latu is a 2016 graduate of Lahainaluna High School on Maui.
