FRESNO, Calif. — The fourth-ranked University of Hawai'i women's water polo team opens the 2026 season at the Fresno State Polopalooza, held Friday, Jan. 16 through Sunday, Jan. 18 at the Fresno State Aquatics Center in Fresno, Calif.
UH begins the weekend with an exhibition matchup with No. 10 Indiana on Friday, Jan. 16 at 3:00 p.m. HT.
The Rainbow Wahine officially open regular-season play with a doubleheader on Saturday, Jan. 17, facing No. 12 San Jose State at noon HT, before taking on No. 5 Cal at 4:30 p.m. HT. UH wraps up the opening weekend against No. 15 Michigan on Sunday, Jan. 18 at 7:30 a.m. HT.

- All-Big West First Team.
- Recorded 209 saves and 35 steals last season.
- Led the Big West in goals against average (9.10).
- Ranked third in the conference in save percentage (.482).
- Big West Championship MVP.
- Allowed no goals in the first and fourth quarters in a win against Cal in the NCAA quarterfinals.
Ema Vernoux (Sophomore, Attacker)
- Big West Freshman of the Year.
- ACWPC All-America honorable mention.
- All-Big West First Team.
- Big West All-Freshman Team.
- Led the team and ranked third in the Big West with 78 goals.
- Also led the team in points (98), shots (142) and shot percentage (.549).
- Recorded 16 hat tricks, including 10 games with four goals or more
Agatha Weston (Redshirt Sophomore, Utility)
- Redshirted in 2025.
- Named to 2024 Big West All-Freshman Team.
- Totaled 19 goals, 14 assists and 29 steals.
- Returned competition during the Legacy Crown Tournament in November, where she registered seven goals against the nation's top competition.
'BOWS FIRST IN BIG WEST POLL
The defending Big West champions enter the year voted first in the preseason poll, totaling 45 points and receiving five first-place votes.
- Led by second-year head coach James Robinson, UH enters the season as the defending Big West champion after posting a 22-5 overall record and an undefeated 7-0 mark in conference play in 2025.
- The Rainbow Wahine advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Championship for a second straight season.
- Finished the year ranked No. 4 in both ACWPC and CWPA polls.
NEWEST MEMBERS OF THE 'OHANA
The Rainbow Wahine welcome a group of seven newcomers comprised of three freshmen and four transfers to the team. The incoming class brings a mix of collegiate and international experience and will look to help in UH's pursuit of a Big West Championship three-peat. Highlighting this year's incoming class are:
Asimina Klapsianou (Freshman, Center)
- Won the Greek Cup in 2024 and also played in the Greek Super Cup this year.
- Has played for the Greek National Team at five age levels (U16, U17, U18, U19, U20).
- Helped Greece win silver medals at the U16 World Championship in 2022, the U18 World Championships and U18 European Championships in 2024.
- Earned bronze medals in the U17 European Championships in 2023, the U19 European Championships and U20 World Championships in 2024.
- Won a gold medal at the U18 and U19 Pythia Cup in 2024 and 2025.
Ariadna Temprano Xambó (Freshman, Utility)
- Played for Club Esportiu Mediterrani for eight years, and scored 40 goals for Mediterrani in 2025.
- Played for Spain's National Team in five age levels (U15, U16, U17, U18, U19).
- Won gold at the 2024 World Aquatics Women's U18 Water Polo Championships. Named the MVP of the semifinal win over Hungary.
- Helped Spain capture gold in the 2024 Women's European U19 Water Polo Championships.
- Earned a silver medal at the U17 European Championships in 2023.
- Helped Spain win bronze at the U16 World Championships in 2022 and the U15 European Championships in 2021.
Sienna Walker (Freshman, Center)
- In 2024, led the Fremantle Marlins to a runner-up finish in the Australian Water Polo League.
- Earned a bronze medal at the 2024 World Championships as a member of the U16 Australian team.
- Received player of the match honors with a match-high four goals against Italy in the 2024 World Championships semifinal.
- Played for the Junior Australia squad for three years.
- Also a member of Australia junior squad (2023-25), Western Australia 18U team for the National Age Group Program (2022-25) and Melville Water Polo Club Juniors (2016-25).
Olivia Slavens (Junior, Attacker)
- Spent two seasons at Long Beach City College in Long Beach, Calif.
- Named the 2023 and 2024 All-South Coast Conference MVP.
- Helped LBCC win the 2024 3C2A State Championship in 2024.
- Played 59 games (started in 51) and tallied 199 goals, 70 assists, 156 steals, 50 drawn exclusions and 27 field blocks.
- Scored at least three goals in 39 matches, and at least five goals in 14 matches.
- Recorded a career-high nine goals against CSU Northridge (Oct. 14, 2023) and Saddleback (Oct, 21, 2023).
