MISHIMA CITY, Japan – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team carded an opening round even par 284 Wednesday in the opening round of the Pan Pacific University Golf Super League at the Grand Fields Country Club.
Leading the way for the Rainbow Wahine was
Varnika S. Achanta, who shot 3-under 68 and sits in a tie for third place in the individual leaderboard. The San Jose, Calif., native posted six birdies on her round and is three strokes behind leader Nagi Kuramochi of Nihon University (65).
Maline Kraus is one stroke back at 2-under 69 and tied for sixth place with a group of six others.
UCLA leads the team standings at 8-under 276 followed by Nihon (281) who is five strokes back. UH and Fukui University of Technology are tied for third at 284 while Meiji University (286) rounds out the top five. A total of 12 women's teams are entered in the field.
