2025 Softball Season In Review

2025 Sotball Walk-off

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Rainbow Wahine placed fifth in the Big West with a 17-10 Big West Record and finished the season with a 33-20 overall record.
  • Bob Coolen retired after 34 years as the head coach of the Rainbow Wahine leaving behind a legendary legacy.
  • Coolen won over 1,100 games at UH and led the Rainbow Wahine to 11 NCAA tournaments including one amazing trip to the 2010 Women's College World Series.
  • Izabella Martinez was named the Big West Defensive Player of the Year, becoming only the third Rainbow Wahine to do it.
  • Six Rainbow Wahine earned All-Big West honors - Izabella Martinez (first team), Jamie McGaughey (second team), Chloe Borges (HM), Macy Brandl (HM), Larissa Goshi (HM), and Milan Ah Yat (HM).
  • Seventeen of UH's 33 wins this year were “come-from-behind” victories.
  • It is the 26th time that UH has won at least 30 games in a season.
  • UH finished with a .975 fielding percentage which ranked No. 14 in the nation for NCAA DI.
  • Four Rainbow Wahine started all 53 games this season - Martinez at catcher, McGaughey at first, Murakami at second and Ah Yat at short.

  • Defensive Player of the Year/All-Big West First Team: Izabella Martinez
  • All-Big West Second Team: Jamie McGaughey
  • All-Big West Honorable Mention: Chloe Borges, Macy Brandl, Larissa Goshi, and Milan Ah Yat
SB Academic All-District

Five Rainbow Wahine were named to the Academic All-District Team. The five included Amelia Fidge, Carys Murakami, Milan Ah Yat, Macy Brandl, and Jamie McGaughey.

BIG WEST TOURNAMENT

The Rainbow Wahine entered the Big West tournament as the fifth seed. They defeated fourth seeded Long Beach State and the top seeded Cal State Fullerton in the tournament. The 'Bows used a nine-run seventh inning rally against Cal State Fullerton to advance to the semifinals. Izabella Martinez was named to the Big West Championship All-Tournament team.

MAHALO COACH BOB

Bob Coolen Senior Night

After 36 years of coaching the University of Hawai‘i softball team, legendary coach Bob Coolen called it a career. Coolen is the 15th winningest coach in NCAA Division I softball history while leading UH to 11 NCAA Tournament appearances.
