2025 Water Polo Season In Review

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

  • UH claimed the Big West regular season and tournament titles for a second straight year.
  • The ‘Bows earned an automatic bid to the National Collegiate Women’s Water Polo Championship and made back-to-back semifinal appearances for the first time since 2005-06. 
  • UH placed four players on the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-American teams, including second-team honors for Bernadette Doyle and Jordan Wedderburn, third-team honors for Daisy Logtens and honorable mention recognition for Ema Vernoux.
  • UH swept the Big West's major awards and a total of seven members of the program received recognition from the conference.
  • Bernadette Doyle claimed Big West Player of the Year and first-team honors.
  • Ema Vernoux earned Big West Freshman of the Year, first-team and freshman team honors.
  • James Robinson was named Big West Coach of the Year in his first season leading the Rainbow Wahine.
  • Logtens earned All-Big West first-team honors, Wedderburn received second-team honors, Perlman earned honorable mention recognition and Gabrielle Doyle was named to the Freshman Team.
  • UH earned its 500th win in program history with a victory over Fresno State (11-10) on Feb. 1, 2025 at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla, Calif.
  • UH went undefeated at home for the second straight season and has won a program-record 16 consecutive home games in a streak that started on April 22, 2023 with a 12-8 win over UC Davis.
  • Raha Peiravani won the NCAA Elite 90 award for a second year in a row, recording the highest cumulative GPA among athletes participating in the NC Women’s Water Polo Championship.
  • Wedderburn was presented the Jack Bonham award, the UH Athletics Department's highest honor.

Big West Coach of the Year

  • James Robinson: Finished his first season at the helm with a 22-5 record—the highest winning percentage (.815) by a first-year head coach in program history. Robinson also led the team to its second straight Big West regular season and tournament titles and NCAA semifinal appearance.

 

All-Big West First Team:

  • Bernadette Doyle (Big West Player of the Year): 56 goals, 39 assists, 55 steals and 17 field blocks
  • Ema Vernoux (Big West Freshman of the Year): 78 goals, 20 assists, 22 steals and 10 field blocks
  • Daisy Logtens: 209 saves, .482 SV% and 35 steals

 

All-Big West Second Team:

  • Jordan Wedderburn: 68 goals, 10 assists, 69 drawn exclusions and 15 steals

 

All-Big West Honorable Mention:

  • Roni Perlman: 15 goals, 32 assists and 20 steals

 

Big West All-Freshman Team:

  • Gabrielle Doyle: 15 goals, 10 assists and 34 steals

PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARDS

The Rainbow Wahine set a new program record with six Big West Player of the Week awards, breaking last year's record of five — Jordan Wedderburn (3), Bernadette Doyle (2), Ema Vernoux (1).

RAHA PEIRAVANI WINS ELITE 90 AWARD FOR A SECOND YEAR IN A ROW

Peiravani earned the Elite 90 award which is given out to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.

JORDAN WEDDERBURN EARNS JACK BONHAM AWARD

Wedderburn was presented the Jack Bonham award which is the UH Athletics Department's highest honor given annually to the top male and female senior student-athlete who "best exemplifies the ideals for which Jack Bonham stood for in the areas of athletic excellence, academic achievement, public service, leadership and character."

CSC ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORS

A student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) at his or her current institution to earn CSC Academic All-District honors.

BACK-TO-BACK BIG WEST CHAMPIONS

UH claimed back-to-back conference tournament titles for the first time in program history, defeating Long Beach State 8-6 in the championship match.

NCAA TOURNAMENT

The ‘Bows earned an automatic bid and the fourth seed in the NC Women’s Water Polo Championship, and back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances for the first time since 2005-06.

'BOWS BEAT CALIFORNIA IN QUARTERFINALS

UH defeated California 8-7 in the opening round to advance to the semifinals for a second straight year.

500TH PROGRAM VICTORY

UH earned its 500th win in program history with a victory over Fresno State (11-10) on Feb. 1, 2025 at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla, Calif.

BERNADETTE DOYLE JOINS TRIPLE-TRIPLE CLUB

Bernadette Doyle became the second player in program history to reach triple digits in career goals (132), assists (105), and steals (132).

The Rainbow Wahine honored Jordan Wedderburn, Bernadette Doyle, Morgan Rios and Stevilyn Griffin on Senior Night at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex.
