LONG BEACH, Calif. – Lilian Turban claimed her second career outdoor high jump conference title to lead the Hawai'i track and field team on day one at the Big West Championships Friday.
The Rainbow Wahine sit in sixth place as a team with 22.5 points with Turban accounting for 11 of those between the high jump and shot put. UH also had two other athletes put up points while finishing with four advancements through prelims to Saturday's finals.
Turban took home the Big West high jump title for the first time since 2023, clearing 1.81m (5-11.25) on her first attempt to post a season-best mark. The Tallinn, Estonia native pulled off the high jump, shot put double transitioning back-and-forth between both events which were taking place simultaneously. Turban also came in eighth in the shot put with a toss of 14.41 (47-3.5) to put up a point for the Rainbow Wahine.
Valo Sopoaga added two points for the 'Bows in the shot put, coming in seventh with a 14.50m (47-7) to move into 10th all-time at UH.
Sammie Gordon rounded out the scoring for Hawai'i on Friday, finishing in a tie for fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.68m (5-6), putting up 3.5 points.
A trio of Rainbow Wahine advanced through prelims on the track to claim spots in Saturday's finals.
Lucy Milliner earned finals spots in both the 800m and 1500m, coming in as the No. 2 qualifier in the 800m with a time of 2:10.21 while finishing eight in the 1500m prelims, stopping the clock in 4:40.36.
Ruby Brook will join Milliner in the 800m final after she posted the third-fastest qualifying mark in 2:12.17 while
Catherine Touchette ran 1:01.33 in the 400m hurdles to reach Saturday's final.
Zola O'Donnell turned in a career-best mark in the 10,000m, posting the No. 4 time in program history in 36:08.16, finishing 10th in the meet just outside of a scoring spot.
The Rainbow Wahine close out the Big West Championships Saturday with the action beginning at 7 a.m. HT.
