IRVINE, Calif. – Five members of the University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team were named to the Big West All-Conference Team as selected by the league's six head coaches.
Setter
Tread Rosenthal, outside hitter
Adrien Roure, and opposite
Kristian Titriyski were selected to the first team while libero
'Eleu Choy and middle blocker
Kurt Nusterer received honorable mention honors. In addition Roure and Titriyski were picked to the all-freshman team.
The individual awards for Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Coach of the Year will be announced next week.
Rosenthal earned his second first-team honor while Nusterer adds honorable mention accolades to his all-freshman team recognition in 2023.
Rosenthal, a sophomore from Austin, Texas, leads the Big West and ranks fourth nationally in assists per set (10.69) while directing the nation's No. 7 offense (.343). UH also leads the country in kills per set (13.29). Rosenthal, who ranks second on the team in aces per set (0.34) and digs per set (1.58), has been named Big West Setter of the Week five times, the most of any setter in the league.
Titriyski, a freshman from Sofia, Bulgaria, leads the team in kills per set (4.24), points per set (5.05), and aces per set (0.45). He earned two Big West Offensive Player of the Week awards and was named Freshman of the Week four times. In addition he became the third UH freshman to win AVCA National Player of the Week honors after helping the Warriors to a two-match series sweep of UC Irvine.
Roure, a freshman from Lyon, France, is averaging 3.10 kills per set, hitting at a .328 clip. He also averages 1.44 digs per set and has 28 service aces. He leads the team with 18 matches of 10+ kills and averaged 4.30 kills per set, hitting .507 during the OUTRIGGER Invitational, which earned him all-tournament team honors.
Nusterer has started 28 matches during his final season in Mānoa. The Indianapolis, Ind., native sports a career-best 1.24 kills per set average this season and ranks No. 4 in the conference in blocks per set (1.03). Choy is the only Rainbow Warrior to start all 29 matches this season and play in all 106 sets. The Honolulu native has a 1.71 digs per set average and has twice been named Big West Defensive Player of the Week this season.
Regular season champion Long Beach State had four players on the first team followed by UH, UC Irvine, and CSUN with three and UC San Diego with two. Counting first team and honorable mention selections, UH and LBSU led the way with five honorees.
