Women's Tennis Gears Up For Big West Championship

SAN DIEGO, Calif.--The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team enters the 2025 Big West Women's Tennis Championship as the No. 3 seed after finishing the regular season with an 8-7 overall mark and a 6-3 conference record. The Rainbow Wahine will open the tournament against No. 10 Seed UC Riverside (4-18, 0-9 Big West) on Thursday, April 24 at 7:00 a.m. HT at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.

In their match on February 19th at the SRC Tennis Courts in Riverside, Calif. earlier this year, the Rainvow Wahine defeated the Highlanders, 6-1. Hawai"i won the doubles point with victories on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts with Ana Vilcek and Nikola Homolkova defeating Niki Shahbazi and Sam Condevillamar, 6-2 and UH's Hannah Galindo and Makeilah Nepomuceno nearly shutting out Chloe Vu and Crystal Kim, 6-1. In singles action, UH recorded win on Cours 2-6. UH's No. 3 Joelle Lanz quickly dispatched UCR's Kim, 6-3, 6-2 while on the No. 6 court, Allaire Berl defeated Condevillarmar in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Both No. 4 Emna Forgac and No. 5 Gallindo won in straight sets as well with Frgac knocking off Kei Kato, 6-4, 6-1 and Galindo holding off UCR's Vu by a break in both sets, 7-5, 6-4. Homolkova outlasted UCR's Niki Shahbaz in three sets at No. 2, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 to close out the match.

STREAK: UH has won the last 10
• Three Rainbow Wahine enter the tournament with nine wins apiece, led by senior Ana Vilcek who has a team-best 9-3 overall and 7-1 conference records. Vilcek finished the season strong winning her last four-straight and six of her last seven matches primarily on the No. 1 court. Homolkova and Lanz both have identical 9-5 records coming into this week. Homolkova has split her time playing seven matches at No. 2 and seven at No. 3. She has won three of her last five matches. Lanz, who will be graduating later this year, has won five of her last seven matches mostly on the No. 6 court. But the versatile Lanz ahs played at No. 4, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 throuhout this season.
• Seinior Peppi Ramstedt has the second-most win total on the team with a 7-8 overall record. Most recently, she snapped a tough, four-match losing streak with a straight set win last week over UC Irvine's Amanda Perez on the No. 3 court. Ramstedthas also been a "utility" player, recording six matches at No. 1, five at No. 2 and four at No. 3 this year.
• Hawai'i has played only five different doubles pairings in dual matches this season
• In doubles, UH's No. 1 duo of Sheena Masuda and Ramstedt lead the 'Bows with a team-best 8-5 overall record in dual matches. Ramstedt and Masuda have won their last four-straight decisions and six of their last seven.
• Both Gallindo/Nepomuceno and Vilcek/Homolkova have 6-7 records coming into the tournament.

• Ramey Yu leads the Highlanders with a 10-6 record, going 8-5 while playing at No. 1 and 2-1 on the NO. 2 court.
• Kei Kato is second ont he team with a 6-12 overall record. Most recently, she defeated CSF's Diana Yanotovskaya in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3.
• In doubles, UCR's No. 1 duo of Kato and Yu lead UCR with a 6-9 record all on the No. 1 court.
