AZUSA, Calif. – The Hawai'i women's track and field team began competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational with distance runners
Sariah Hernandez and
Zola O'Donnell each posting program top 10 marks in their races Wednesday.
Hernandez came just a couple of seconds shy of setting a program record in the 3000m steeplechase with a personal best time of 10:55.19, improving on her already No. 2 mark at UH. The senior became just the second Hawai'i runner to run sub-11:00 in the event, coming 1.52 seconds away from Sophia Morgan's record time of 10:53.67.
O'Donnell kicked things off in the morning session of the 10,000m by moving into the top five in school history in the event. The Mililani native took over the No. 5 spot at UH, posting a time of 36:34.61 to run the fastest time in the event by a Rainbow Wahine runner since 2008 (Chantelle Laan).
The Rainbow Wahine continue action at the Bryan Clay Invitational Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. HT.
