LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team carded an opening round 310 at the Big West Championship Sunday at Spanish Trail Country Club.
The Rainbow Wahine sit in eighth place with two more rounds to play. Cal State Fullerton leads the team standings with a 291 while Fullerton's Davina Xanh has a one-stroke lead in the individual leaderboard at 2-under 70.
A trio of UH golfers shot 5-over 77 and are tied for 23
rd –
Varnika S. Achanta,
Maline Kraus, and
Sofina Firouzi. Hawai'i had a team total of 7-over par at the turn but shot 15-over on the back nine with Firouzi recording the only two birdies.
Emiko Sverduk shot 7-over 79 and is tied for 35
th while
Kellie Yamane posted 82 and sits in a tie for 40
th place.
The championship continues on Monday with Round 2. UH's tee times are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. PT.
