TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Hawai'i redshirt freshman
Varnika S. Achanta finished in a tie for 11
th place after the final round of the MountainView Collegiate Tuesday at The Preserve Golf Club.
The San Jose, Calif., native carded a final round 2-over 74 to finish 5-over 221 for the tournament and a share of 11
th place with six other golfers. The finish marked the second-best for a Rainbow Wahine this season behind
Maline Kraus' tie for fifth at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in October.
As a team, the Rainbow Wahine posted a 920 total, good for 14
th place in the team standings. For the third straight round, UH played with only four golfers as Kraus was forced to withdraw.
Emiko Sverduk carded a 5-over 77 to finish 16-over 232 and tie for 55
th place.
Sofina Firouzi tied for 51
st with a 14-over 230 total after a final round 78.
Kellie Yamane rounded out the group with an 81 and 237 total.
Co-host Kansas State captured the team title with a 868 total followed by Arizona (878), TCU (879), Oklahoma (885), and Wisconsin (894). KSU's Carla Bernat ran away with medalist honors with an 11-under 205 total, nine strokes better than runner-ups Audrey Rischer of Oklahoma and Camille Min-Gaultier of TCU.
The Rainbow Wahine will next host the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational. March 24-26 in Kā'anapali, Maui.
