Nahaku Named Golden Spikes National Player of the Week

CARY, N.C. – Following his massive weekend at CSUN, outfielder Kamana Nahaku earned Golden Spikes Award National Player of the Week honors Tuesday.

Nahaku is the first Hawai'i player ever to earn Golden Spikes National Player of the Week honors and the first UH player since 2021 (Dustin Demeter) to earn any kind of national player of the week recognition.

The senior homered in all three games against the Matadors, capped off by a school single-game record tying three bombs in Sunday's finale. Nahaku became just the sixth player in UH history to homer three times in a game and the first since Kolten Wong in 2009.

Nahaku delivered a go-ahead grand slam on an 0-2 pitch in the seventh inning of Saturday's series-tying win for his second long ball of the weekend. He then went yard three times in Sunday's dramatic 14-10 series-clinching win, hitting two solo homers in the fifth and seventh innings before capping off UH's 10-run ninth inning with a two-run shot.

Nahaku was one of just four players nationally to hit five home runs last week and is the first Rainbow Warrior since 2015 (Kaeo Aliviado) to homer in three straight games.

Earlier in the week, Nahaku beat out a game-tying infield single with two outs in the ninth inning to help lead Hawai'i to a 9-8 win in extra innings over Hawai'i Hilo.

The Auburn, Wash. native is now hitting .348 on the season and has already claimed Big West Player of the Week honors.
