NORTHRIDGE, Calif.--The University of Hawai'i softball team (15-10, 1-2 Big West) travels to Northridge, Calif. to battle CSUN (10-12, 3-0 Big West) in a three-game Big West series. The two teams will face off in a single game on Friday, March 14 at a new start time of 12:00 p.m. HT due to expected inclement weather in the morning. UH and CSUN will follow with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 15 beginning at 10:00 a.m. HT. All games will be played at the Matador Diamond.

Last series vs. CSUN: Last year, UH swept the Matadors in the 'Bows' BW home opening series. UH took the opener in five innings, 11-2 and then held the Matadors off in the doubleheader, 5-4 and 4-1.

Last Week: The Matadors opened the Big West with a three-game series sweep at Cal Poly. CSUN started capturing both ends of their doubleheader in San Luis Obispo, 7-2 and 6-2. CSUN then rolled in the series finale, 12-0 in five innings.
QUICK HITSLAST WEEK
Hawai'i went 1-2 against Long Beach State to open the Big West season. UH looked strong in a 6-1 win over The Beach to open the series. But LBSU then swept UH in Saturday's doubleheader, 8-3 and 9-1 in six innings. It is the fourth-straight year that UH has gone 1-2 against The Beach.
AH YAT CONTINUES TO LEAD THE CHARGE
Sophomore shortstop
Milan Ah Yat continues to lead UH with a .349 batting average, 17 RBI (tied with
Jamie McGaughey), 16 walks (tied with
Izabella Martinez), and a .481 on-base percentage. Ah Yat has gone 22-for-63 at the plate with four doubles, four home runs and seven runs scored for the season.
MURAKAMI STEADY AT THE READY
Junior second baseman
Carys Murakami is second on the team hitting .339 (21-for-62). She is tied with four others for third place on the team scoring 11 runs. Murakami is tied for the team-lead with five multiple-hti games. Murakami, who spent her first two seasons playing for CSUN will be making return to Matador Diamond.
McGAUGHEY POWERING 'BOWS
Sophomore first baseman
Jamie McGaughey was tied for the team-lead with a .429 batting average (3-for-7) with
Liliana Thomas. Two of McGaughey's three hits went for extra bases with a double and a home run for a team-best 1.000 slugging percentage and .556 on-base percentage with two walks. Overall she leads UH with six home runs, 17 RBI, and a .698 slugging percentage. She is second with a 15 walks and a .456 on-base percentage.
KOSTRENCICH SOLID IN THE CIRCLE
Senior starting pitcher
Addison Kostrencich leads UH with an 8-5 overall record and a team-low 2.49 ERA. She has fired a team-high eight complete games and 73.0 innings pitched. Last week, she went 1-1 against Long Beach State earned a complete-game win in the series opener.
MARTINEZ SETTING THE TABLE
Senior catcher
Izabella Martinez has reached base safely in all but two games this season. UH's leadoff batter leads the Big West with eight doubles and is currently third on the team with a .333 batting average, but is tops on the squad racking up 26 hits, is tied with a team-best 16 walks with Ah Yat and is tied with
Liliana Thomas scoring 12 runs. On defense, she is ranked third in the league and 21st in the NCAA DI in throwing out runners trying to steal.
HOME RUN POWER
Hawai'i leads the Big West with 20 total home runs and .8 home runs per game. Seven different Rainbow Wahine have hit at least one homer this season, led by McGaughey's six round trippers. Ah Yat has four, Thomas and
Chloe Borges enter this week with three apiece; Kayara Tuiloma has cranked a pair of HR's; and Millie Fidge and
Ellyanna Cinzori both have one each.
TRANSFERS MAKING IMPACT
Four of UH's five transfers this season have made a significant impact for the Rainbow Wahine thus far. Three of UH's five infield positions have been filled by transfers who returned to Hawai'i after starting their collegiate careers else where. Senior
Liliana Thomas has started 24 games at third base. She will conclude her collegiate career after spending her first two seasons at Arizona State and last year at Loyola Marymount. Thomas has come thru with some clutch hits and is tied for the team lead with 12 runs scored while hitting .255 (19-for-75). Murakami spent her first two seasons at CSUN before transferring to UH. Thomas and Murakami both are graduates of Maryknoll School. After graduating from University Laboratory School, Ah Yat spent her first season at LMU before returning to play for UH.
The fourth transfer who has made an immediate impact has been pitcher
Macy Brandl. The sophomore transfer helped lead Fullerton College to the 2024 California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) title while going undefeated in league play en route to earning 3C2A and league Pitcher of the Year honors. This season, Brandle is 6-4 with a 4.12 ERA. She leads UH with three shutouts and 40 strikeouts. She has six complete games and one save in 66.1 innings pitched.
RALLYING ON TWO
Hawai'i has come through in the clutch, scoring 49 of its 114 total runs with two outs which equates to scoring 43% of its runs with two outs.
