HONOLULU — A career-best performance helped University of Hawai'i senior
Jordan Wedderburn earn the Big West Women's Water Polo Player of the Week award on Wednesday.
Wedderburn scored a career-high seven goals in an overtime win over UC Irvine on Sunday to punctuate a 15-goal weekend in the Triton Invitational in La Jolla, Calif., and won the Big West award for the second time in her UH career.
She opened the weekend by scoring four goals on five shots in a 19-4 win over Cal State Fullerton in UH's tournament opener. Against Fresno State on Saturday, she recorded her third hat trick of the season to help the 'Bows overcome a 6-2 halftime deficit on their way to pulling out an 11-10 win in overtime. In the third-place match on Sunday, she scored three goals in the third quarter alone and added two more in the fourth period and overtime in an 18-17 shootout with UC Irvine. Wedderburn's seven goals against the Anteaters tied for the third highest single-match total in program history and was the most for a UH player since March 30, 2023.
Wedderburn converted on 60% of her shots in the tournament and ranks second on the team with 22 goals this season. She reached 100 career goals in UH's win over Arizona State earlier this season and now has 115.
The Rainbow Wahine (7-2) remained at No. 5 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association and Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches polls released on Wednesday. They'll have a two week break from competition before returning to action in the Barbara Kalbus Invitational set for Feb. 21-23 in Irvine, Calif.
