SPOKANE, Wash. – For the fourth straight year, the Hawai'i track and field team turned in a top-four finish at the MPSF Championships, finishing fourth thanks to a pair of individual titles on Saturday's final day of the meet.
The Rainbow Wahine ended the meet with 70.5 points led by four medalists, marking the fourth consecutive year that UH has posted a top-four finish in the MPSF after not cracking the top 10 each of the previous eight seasons in the league.
Lilian Turban pulled off a three-peat in the high jump, winning the MPSF title for the third consecutive year with a mark of 1.80m (5-10.75). The native of Talinn, Estonia cleared the mark on her second attempt at that height while two others attempted but failed to clear 1.80m, making her just the second UH athlete ever to win three consecutive indoor conference titles in an event (Annett Wichmann – Pentathlon, 2007-09).
Tara Wyllie defended her conference triple jump title in historic fashion, setting a school record with a mark of 12.66m (41-6.5). The junior posted that mark on her first attempt and ended up winning by a comfortable margin of 0.25m while also getting out to 12.59m on her fifth attempt. Wyllie is the first ever UH athlete to win back-to-back indoor triple jump conference titles.
A pair of UH distance runners also got in the scoring column Saturday, as
Lucy Milliner placed fifth in the 800m and
Emilie Kirk Langschwager came in seventh in the 3000m. Milliner posted a time of 2:11.14 to add four points to the team total while Langschwager added two points, clocking a 9:46.99.
Isabella Kneeshaw finished sixth in the 400m in 56.40 to put up three points while the UH 4x400m relay squad added the final two points with a time of 3:46.88.
