SPOKANE, Wash. – The Hawai'i track and field team opened the MPSF Championships with a balanced effort across the board, finishing day one Friday with 35.5 points to sit in fifth place as a team.
The Rainbow Wahine kicked off the meet by putting up 13 points in the pentathlon, led by
Catherine Touchette's podium finish. The junior PR'd for the second straight meet, totaling 3,812 points to finish in third place highlighted by a 2:13.88 in the 800m. Touchette also moved into third place on UH's all-time top 10 list in the pentathlon.
Maya Holman added four points to the Hawai'i total by coming in fifth in the pentathlon, highlighted by a school record mark of 6.12m (20-1.0) in the long jump. She set a PR of 3,728 points, bettering her No. 6 all-time mark in program history.
Sammie Gordon finished right behind Holman in sixth place with 3,708 points to add three points to the team total.
Zola O'Donnell paced the UH distance crew in the 5000m, posting a personal best time of 17:18.99 to lower her No. 3 time in school history and come in seventh in the meet, becoming the first UH athlete ever to score in the 5000m at the MPSF Championships with two points.
Hawai'i capped off the day with one of the best DMR performances in school history, running an 11:39.52 to move in to second all-time. The squad of
Emilie Kirk Langschwager,
Nora Fischer,
Lucy Becker and
Lucy Milliner came just two seconds shy of the school DMR record that was set in 2005, finishing fourth overall in the meet.
The UH pole vaulters added 11 points to the team total as
Helen Hoadley finished runner-up and freshman
Lindsey Koch came in sixth. Hoadley, who won the conference title last year, cleared 4.11m (13-5.75) to place second while Koch reached a height of 3.81m (12-6.0).
Samaria Vital led the Hawai'i throwers by coming in fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 16.80m (55-1.50) while
Valo Sopoaga delivered a huge PR of 16.45m (53-11.75) to place eighth and score a point for the 'Bows.
