IRVINE, Calif. — The fifth-ranked University of Hawai'i water polo team returns to action at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational from Friday to Sunday (Feb. 21-23) with matches held at the Anteater Aquatics Complex and Corona del Mar High School in Irvine, Calif.

The Barbara Kalbus Invitational will feature 16 teams including 14 teams in this week's Collegiate Water Polo Association top 25 poll. UH will be featured in Group D which includes Cal, Indiana and fellow Big West member UC Santa Barbara.

The 'Bows will open the tournament against No. 17 Indiana on Friday at 2:00 p.m. PT (12:00 p.m. HT) at the Anteater Aquatics Complex. UH will take on No. 4 Cal or No. 18 UC Santa Barbara on Saturday based on the results of Friday's matches. Bracket play continues in Saturday's afternoon session and the tournament concludes on Sunday.

OPENING SPRINT

• UH is coming off of a 3-1 showing at the Triton Invitational, defeating Cal State Fullerton (19-4), No. 7 Fresno State (11-10, OT) and No. 6 UC Irvine (18-17, OT) and falling to No. 3 USC (9-17).
• Jordan Wedderburn earned Big West Player of the Week honors (Feb. 5) for the second time in her career after scoring 15 goals including a career-high seven goals in an overtime victory against UC Irvine at the Triton Invitational.
• Ema Vernoux leads the team with 29 goals with a .580 shooting percentage. Wedderburn is next with 22 goals and a .564 shooting percentage. 
• Bernadette Doyle leads the team defensively with 17 steals followed by Gabrielle Doyle with 10.
• UH is 17-11 all-time in the Barbara Kalbus Invitational and went 3-1 last season defeating Pomona-Pitzer (18-4), Long Beach State (16-9) and Cal (10-6) and falling to UCLA (9-15).
• UH is 4-2 in neutral site games this season.

BARBARA KALBUS INVITATIONAL FIELDThe Barbara Kalbus Invitational is divided into four groups. Teams will compete within their brackets for the first two games then crossover to other brackets for Saturday's second game and Sunday's matches. The top two teams from Groups A and D meet on Saturday afternoon as well as the top two from Brackets B and C.
