COSTA MESA, Calif. — The University of Hawai'i women's water polo team defeated Fresno State, 11-10, in a dramatic comeback before falling to California, 12-8, to finish sixth at the Legacy Crown on Sunday at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, Calif.

The Rainbow Wahine closed the inaugural preseason event at 2-2 as they continue to prepare for the 2026 season.

MATCH 1 — HAWAI'I 11, FRESNO STATE 10
Freshman Ariadna Temprano powered the UH offense, finishing with a hat trick and a team-high seven points (three goals, four assists) in the win over the Bulldogs. Goalkeepers Evelyn Miller and Nalani Yim split time in the cage and combined for nine saves.

Trailing 9-6 after three quarters, the Rainbow Wahine outscored the Bulldogs 5-1 in the fourth-quarter comeback, taking their first lead of the match when Roni Perlman delivered the go-ahead goal at the 4:57 mark. Just 44 seconds later, Olivia Slavens scored what ultimately became the deciding-goal of the match.

Fresno State opened with the first two goals, before Temprano got the 'Bows on the board with a power-play finish. The Bulldogs added another score and held a 3-1 lead after the first quarter.

UH scored three goals in the second quarter, including scores from Gabrielle Doyle, Raha Peiravani and Temprano. The 'Bows surrendered four goals in the quarter, and Fresno State pushed its lead to three at halftime.

The Bulldogs made it 8-4 to start the third, their largest lead of the match. Temprano answered less than a minute later to secure a hat trick. Fresno State added another goal, but the 'Bows had the final say in the period with a powerful goal from Burlock off a perfect feed from Perlman, trimming the deficit to three points entering the fourth.

The 'Bows flipped a switch in the final period, sparked by Asimina Klapsianou who muscled through heavy traffic for a gritty goal. Moments later, Perlman fired a fastball that found the back of the net, and Tara Logan delivered the equalizer to even the match. UH never looked back, with Perlman and Slavens scoring back-to-back goals to seal the dramatic comeback victory.

MATCH 2 - CALIFORNIA 12, HAWAI'I 8

The Rainbow Wahine dropped the final match of the Legacy Crown with a loss to the Golden Bears to finish the tournament in sixth place with a 2-2 record.

Klapsianou, Temprano and Aggie Weston each tallied two goals, while Yim went the distance at goalie and posted nine saves.

Cal jumped out to an early lead, netting four goals in the first eight minutes of play. Klapsianou capitalized on a power play, scoring UH's lone goal of the period.

The 'Bows found their groove offensively in the second quarter with goals from Doyle and Temprano. Klapsianou scored her second goal of the match, double-doinking it off the crossbar and goalkeeper Talia Fonseca before dropping into the cage. The Golden Bears added three goals of their own to maintain a three-point lead.

UH capitalized on its opportunities, including a Weston goal on the power play and a penalty shot goal from Temprano. Cal added three goals and held a 10-6 lead heading into the fourth.

Weston and Burlock each netted goals in the final frame, but the Rainbow Wahine couldn't complete the rally and fell to Cal in the tournament finale.
