Women’s Golf To Compete In Star-Studded Nanea Invitational

The University of Hawai'i women's golf team close out the fall season with the Nanea Invitational, Monday, Oct. 27 through Wednesday, Oct. 29 at the Nanea Golf Club in Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i.

This year's tournament is possibly the most star-studded in its 12-year history with four Top 10 ranked teams, including top-ranked and host Stanford. Ten of the 11 teams are ranked in the Top 100, seven of which are in the Top 50.

In addition to No. 1 Stanford, the field also includes No. 6 Auburn, No. 8 Arizona State and No. 10 Texas. Making up the rest of the field are No. 21 Arizona State, No. 58 California, No. 44 Colorado, No. 42 Oregon State, No. 51 San Jose State, No. 17 UCLA, and No. 97 Washington.

Formerly the Pac-12 Preview, the Nanea Invitational has been traditionally held in the final week of the fall season and exclusive to Pac-12 teams and UH. Two years ago, the tournament moved to the spring season and included several non-Pac-12 teams and this year has returned to its traditional fall time slot.

Participants will play 54 holes, 18 on each day, at the 6,449-yard, par-73 course. Nanea Golf Club is considered the most exclusive golf course in the state of Hawai'i. The course opened in 2003 and was designed by David McLay Kidd.

The Rainbow Wahine have annually competed in the Nanea Invitational since the tournament's inaugural year in 2013 and are considered the host in name only. The tournament was not played in 2020 due to the pandemic.

UH's line-up this week includes Jasmine Wong, Maline Kraus, Chloe Ku, Emiko Sverduk, and Sofina Firouzi. Sverduk will compete in her fourth Nanea event with her best finish occurring last season, where she carded 230 and tied for 40th place. Kraus placed 39th last year with a 229 total.

The Nanea Invite is UH's second tournament in as many weeks after last week's 14th place finish at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Līhu'e, Kaua'i. Wong was the team's top finisher, placing 18th at 2-over 218.
