SEATTLE – The Hawai'i women's track and field team got the 2024 indoor season off to a roaring start, posting numerous program top-10 marks and event wins at the UW Preview Friday at the Dempsey Indoor Center.
The Rainbow Wahine added 13 new school top 10 marks to the record books while three UH athletes took home event wins and
Isabella Kneeshaw set a school record in the 600m run to highlight the opening day of the indoor track and field season.
Maya Holman kicked off the day with a program top-10 mark in her UH debut, running the fourth-fastest 60m hurdle time in school history with an 8.67 in the prelims. Kneeshaw followed that up by posting her first career individual school record with a time of 1:32.00 in the 600m run, shattering the previous mark of 1:35.57.
A group of freshmen delivered top-10 marks in their first collegiate track and field meet, starting with
Nora Fischer and
Amelie Fairclough in the 400m. Fischer moved into sixth in program history with a time of 57.24 while Fairclough jumped into seventh in UH history with a mark of 57.57.
Lucy Becker delivered the fourth-fastest 1000m time in program history with a time of 2:59.74 while
Lucy Milliner stopped the clock in 2:09.96 in the 800m to move in to second all-time at UH.
Gemma Warman also moved in to the UH top 10 in the 1000m with a time of 3:03.53 to put her in eighth all-time.
Samaria Vital kicked off her season by entering the program weight throw top 10, taking over the No. 9 spot with a toss of 16.05m while
Lilian Turban moved in to the UH indoor shot put top 10 with a throw of 13.81m to put her in 10th place. A high jump All-American last year, Turban also got her season off to a strong start in that event, coming in first in the meet clearing 1.81m.
Kristin Cook continued a strong day for the UH sprinters by matching her personal best and sixth-fastest time in school history in the 200m with a mark of 25.15.
Emilie Kirk Langschwager started her indoor season by moving up the school 3000m top 10 list into second all-time with time of 9:43.78 while
Catherine Touchette climbed up the 800m top 10 with a mark of 2:10.70, putting her in fourth.
Holman added to her strong debut, capping off the day by entering the UH long jump top 10 with a mark of 5.60m to move into ninth.
Defending MPSF triple jump champion
Tara Wyllie got her season off to a strong start, winning the event with a mark of 12.20m. Wyllie also qualified for the 60m hurdle finals with a time of 8.76 in the prelims.
Helen Hoadley started her pole vault season off with a win, clearing 4.01m as she looks to continue building off her 2024 MPSF indoor title.
The Rainbow Wahine wrap up action in Seattle Saturday morning with the Mile City Invitational hosted by Washington beginning at 8 a.m. HT.
