Water Polo Duo Earn Big West Preseason Honors; 'Bows Second in Poll

HONOLULU — Two members of the University of Hawai'i women's water polo team were voted to the All-Big West Preseason Coaches' Team and the Rainbow Wahine placed second in the preseason coaches' poll announced on Friday.

Senior attacker Bernadette Doyle and sophomore goalkeeper Daisy Logtens were among the seven players voted to the preseason all-conference team.

As a team, the Rainbow Wahine enter James Robinson's first season as head coach as the defending conference champions and received 42 points in the Big West Women's Water Polo Preseason Coaches' Poll to finish just behind UC Irvine in the voting of the conference's eight coaches.

Doyle returns after a decorated junior season highlighted by a place on the All-Big West first team and second-team All-America honors from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches. The senior from New Zealand was also named the Most Valuable Player of the Big West Championship after posting nine goals and eight steals to help the Rainbow Wahine capture the title. She finished the season with 46 goals last season and a Big West-leading 49 steals.

Logtens made an instant impact in her freshman year and was named to the All-Big West first team and the ACWPC All-America third team. She led the Big West in save percentage (.599) and goals against average (7.42) and finished second in the Big West in saves per game (8.2). She was also voted to the Big West All-Freshman Team and was the lone freshman on the all-conference first team.

UH went 23-4 overall last season and finished 7-0 in Big West play to capture the regular-season championship. The 'Bows then swept through the Big West Championship to earn the conference's automatic bid to the National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Championship. UH ended the season in the national semifinals and finished at No. 3 in the ACWPC and Collegiate Water Polo Association polls, the highest final ranking in program history.

The Rainbow Wahine open the 2025 season in the Fresno State Polopalooza on Jan. 18 and 19. They'll face San Jose State and Stanford on Jan. 18 and take on California in an exhibition match on Jan. 19.
