The University of Hawai'i women's golf team opens the 2024-25 season with the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational Monday, Sept. 9 and Tuesday, Sept. 10 at the UNM Championship Course located on the University of New Mexico campus in Albuquerque, N.M.
The Rainbow Wahine were once regular participants in the tournament but will be making their first appearance since 2010. UH's best finish in nine all-time appearances at the Dick McGuire Invitational was third place in 1991.
UH will send a contingent of five golfers –
Emiko Sverduk,
Maline Kraus,
Lauren Pierce,
Syamala Varnika Achanta, and
Kellie Yamane. Sverduk and Yamane are entering their second seasons in Mānoa while Kraus, Pierce, and Achanta will be making their UH debuts.
Sverduk, a junior from Long Beach, Calif., led the team in scoring last season with a 75.26 average while Yamane finished with a 77.83 average. Kraus is a transfer from Virgina while Achanta enrolled at UH in the spring after transferring Cincinnati. Pierce is a freshman from Granite Bay, Calif.
The two-day tournament begins with 36 holes on Monday followed by 18 holes on Tuesday at the 6,354-yard, par-72 course. The field features 15 teams including four from the Big West – UH, Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, and Long Beach State.
