HONOLULU – The 2024-25 University of Hawai'i women's golf season marks the third under head coach
Julie Brooks and will feature a nine-tournament slate, including two longstanding home events.
The Rainbow Wahine will host the 27
th annual Rainbow Wahine Invitational and 39
th annual Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational. The Rainbow Wahine Invite will be played at the Kapolei Golf Course for the 16
th time in the tournament's history, Oct. 21-23, while the Thompson Invitational – the longest-running tournament in program history – will move to the island of Maui and Ka'anapali Golf Course for the first time, March 24-26, after spending the first 37 years on the island of O'ahu.
Brooks, a Honolulu native, welcomes back four letterwinners among her 10-member squad including
Emiko Sverduk, who competed in all nine tournaments last season. The Long Beach, Calif., native finished second on the team in scoring with a 75.26 strokes per round average. Among the other returnees include
Wendy Song,
Kellie Yamane, and
Sofina Firouzi.
Ting-Yu Liu redshirted last season and
Syamala Varnika Achanta sat out after transferring from Cincinnati mid-year.
UH kicks off the season with the Branch Law Firm McGuire Invitational, Sept. 9-10 in Albuquerque, N.M. A former regular participant of the tournament, Hawai'i will make its first appearance since 2010. In the first week of October, the Rainbow Wahine will compete in the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Highlands Ranch, Colo., Oct. 4-6.
Hawai'i will close out the fall schedule with a pair of tournaments in the 50
th state – the Rainbow Wahine Invitational and the Nanea Invitational, Oct. 28-30 in Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i, the latter of which will be hosted by Stanford and was previously named the Pac-12 Preview.
The spring season begins with the Alice and John Wallace Classic, Feb. 15-17 in Palm Desert, Calif. UH will then travel to Arizona for the Mountain View Collegiate, March 2-4, which will be co-hosted by Missouri and Kansas State.
Following the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, UH will play in the Fresno State Classic, March 31-April 1, its final tune-up for the Big West Championship, which runs April 13-15 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Three freshmen and one transfer will suit up for the Rainbow Wahine this season. Virginia-transfer
Maline Kraus, a Germany native, spent two seasons with the Cavaliers while freshmen
Maddie Dustin,
Mia Hirashima, and
Lauren Pierce will make their collegiate debuts.
