NEW ORLEANS, La. – University of Hawai'i quarterback
Brayden Schager was selected to his fifth preseason watch list after The Manning Award named him to its list.
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton, and Eli Manning. It is the only award that includes the candidates' postseason performances in its balloting.
Schager was among 29 quarterbacks named to the list including one of only three in the Mountain West along with Colorado State's Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi and Fresno State's Mikey Keene.
The Dallas, Texas native has also been mentioned on the watch list of the Maxwell Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, AFCA Good Works Team, and Wuerffel Trophy.
Last season, Schager led the Mountain West in passing yards (3,542), touchdown passes (26), points responsible for (168), and ranked No. 2 in total offense (277.3 ypg). He completed 63.2 percent of his attempts (332-of-525) and was named honorable mention all-MW.
Finalists will be selected prior to the postseason and the winner will be announced following the College Football Playoff National Championship. In addition to the Manning Award's yearly honor, each week during the regular season, eight quarterbacks are recognized as Manning Quarterbacks of the Week.
