Men’s Basketball Picks Up Backcourt Scorer

HONOLULU -- University of Hawai'i men's basketball coach Eran Ganot announced the signing of the team's second Division I transfer this spring with the addition of Marcus Greene to the 2024-25 Rainbow Warriors roster. Greene will have one year of eligibility with the Rainbow Warriors after previously playing at a pair of Division I schools, most recently at Houston Christian.

The  6-2, 190-pound guard enjoyed a stellar junior campaign for Houston Christian this past season, leading the Huskies in total points and averaging 15.1 points per game. Green, who exploded for a career-high 30 points versus Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was an efficient scorer, shooting 45 percent from the floor, 43 percent on threes and 79 percent from the line. He also added 3.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in his lone season at HCU.

"We are extremely excited to add Marcus to the program," said Ganot. "He is a tremendous talent who possesses the ability to shoot the three and attack the paint to create opportunities for both himself and his teammates. His consistent improvement in each year of his career is a testament to his strong character and work ethic. We look forward to working with Marcus as he makes another jump and becomes an impactful player for our program."

Greene started his collegiate career in 2021-22 at Sacramento State where he played in 19 games as a true freshman. He then spent a season in junior college, where he earned second-team All-Region XIV honors for Panola College in Carthage, Texas. Greene helped lead Panola to one of the best seasons in school history, as the Ponies went 28-5 overall and finished No. 10 in the final 2023 NJCAA Division I national rankings.

A native of Gilroy, Calif., Greene was  an all-conference, all-area and all-section player at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose and also played for Scotland Campus Prep in Pennsylvania.

Greene is the second player to sign with UH this spring, joining former Utah Tech and Idaho center Tanner Christensen. High school standouts A.J. Economou and Aaron Hunkin-Claytor signed with UH during the early period last fall.
