LA QUINTA, Calif. – University of Hawai'i's Blaze Akana carded a 5-under 67 on the final day of the Big West Championship Tuesday at the La Quinta Country Club.
The Honolulu native had the second lowest round of the day and finished the championship with a 4-over 220 total and tie for 18th place.
As a team, the Rainbow Warriors placed seventh at 885 after a final round 4-under 284, their best score of the tournament. Long Beach State captured its third consecutive Big West title with a 14-under 850 total, four strokes ahead of Cal State Fullerton (854).
Rounding out the team standings were Cal Poly (862), UC Irvine (865), UC Davis (880), CSUN (881), UH, UC Santa Barbara (896), and UC Riverside (911).
Individually, Fullerton's Tegan Andrews took medalist honors at 14-under 202 after a final round 66. LBSU's Clay Seeber finished runner-up at 10-under 206.
Two other Warriors shot under par on Tuesday – Josh Hayashida (69) and Kolbe Irei (71) – and both finished in a tie for 11th place at 2-over 218. Hayashida birdied his final two holes and posted six birdies on the day while Irei recorded five birdies and an eagle.
Also competing for UH were Tyler Ogawa (78=232; 40th) and Dane Watanabe (77=233; t-41st).
The tournament concludes the 2023-24 season for the Rainbow Warriors. Head coach Scott Simpson completed his third season at the helm.
