HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team will make its final tune-up for the Big West Championship by competing in the Cowgirl Classic, Wednesday, April 3 and Thursday, April 4 at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz.
The tournament features a 21-team field and is hosted by the University of Wyoming, who is also hosting the Cowboy Classic which runs at the same venue earlier in the week. Five other Big West teams –CSU Bakersfield, Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, Long Beach State, and UC Riverside – are also participating in the field.
Participants will play 54 holes – 36 on Wednesday and 18 on Thursday – at the 6,191-yard, par-72 course.
The Rainbow Wahine will be making their fourth consecutive trip to the Cowgirl Classic. UH finished fourth last season in the 20-team field. Among this year's squad,
Wendy Song and
Monica Johnson both competed in that event with Song tying for 60
th and Johnson finishing in 107
th place.
Emiko Sverduk has a team-best 75.38 scoring average and has been the team's top finisher in the last three tournaments, which includes a Top 20 finish at The Causeway Invitational.
The Big West Championship is scheduled for April 14-16 in Las Vegas, Nev.
