QUICK HITS
LAST WEEK AT UC SAN DIEGO
  • Due to expected inclement weather to the San Diego area, the two teams agreed to switch their doubleheader to Friday and hoped to play a single game on Saturday. UH and UCSD were able to get the DH in, but Saturday's single game was rained out.
  • The two teams split the doubleheader with the Tritons tossing a shutout to win the first game, 2-0, but the 'Bows bounced back to even things with a 5-2 win.
    • A first inning, two-RBI double by UCSD's Brooklyn Lee provided all the run support starter India Caldwell would need as she shut down the UH offense for the game, spacing five hits while walking one and striking out two. UH had its best scoring opportunity in the sixth when they loaded the bases with one out. But Caldwell got a pop-out and a fielder's choice groundout to second to thwart the threat. The game was a pitchers duel between Lee and UH's Addison Kostrencich. After giving up the two first inning runs, Kostrencich retired 11-straight batters between the second and fifth innings. She also scattered five hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
    • In the second game, Hawai'i's sophoore starter Key-Annah Campbell-Pua earned the complete game win to improve to 4-5 on the season and 3-0 in the Big West. Although there were Triton runners on base every inning, Campbell-Pua was able to navigate the game allowing just one run in the first and one in the seventh while holding UCSD off the scoreboard the rest of the game. She gavue up the two runs on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts. UC San Diego's S Thompson took the loss, giving up three runs on nine hits in six innings with a walk and a strikeout.
    • Senior first baseman Dallas Millwood was clutch, coming through in the first inning with a two-RBI single up the middle and then in the seventh hit a ground-rule double that bounced over the centerfield fence to drive in one of two runs in the frame to give the 'Bows some breathing room with a 5-1 lead.
  • For the series at UCSD, three Rainbow Wahine--Xiao Gin, Izabella Martinez and Millwood--led the team with a .429 average with all going 3-for-7 at the plate
  • Overall, senior designated player Haley Johnson and Millwood lead the UH offense with .333 batting averages. Johnson has gone 27-for-81 at the plate and she leads UH with five doubles. She also is tied with a team-best six multiple-hit games and shares a nine-game hitting streak with senior second baseman Maya Nakamura. Johnson also had hit safely in a team-high 14-straight games.
  • After a slow start to the season after returning from a season-ending foot injury suffered in just the second week of the 2023 season, Millwood worked diligently to return to form. The grad student has gone 27-for-72 this season and has been a vocal leader of the team. She has four doubles, three homers and 17 RBI thus far with a .514 slugging percentage. She is tied with two others with a team-high six multiple-RBI games.
  • Junior centerfielder/pitcher Chloe Borges continues to rise on offense. Currently Borges leads UH with a .702 slugging percentage, a .437 on-base percentage, 21 RBI and is tied with Mya'Liah Bethea with a team-high seven home runs which ranks them second in the Big West. Borges is third overall with a .316 batting average and she currently has the longest active "reached base safely" streak, reaching safely in 13-consecutive games coming into this week.
  • Senior Maya Nakamura continues to flash the leather at second base while hitting a shade under .300 at .297 overall (22-for-74). She leads UH with 21 runs scored, 13 walks, and is second with six home runs, 19 RBI a .608 slugging percentage and a .416 on-base percentage. Nakamura is tied with three others for a team-best six multiple-hit games and is tied with two  with  a team-high six multiple-RBI games.
  • Campbell-Pua is 4-5 overall and 3-0 in conference with a team-low 3.68 ERA. She's started and appeared in 12 games with four complete games. In 59.0 innings, she has allowed 36 runswith 22 walks and 13 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .267 batting average
  • Kostrencich is 6-6 overall and 2-1 in the Big West. Kostrencich had made a team-high 15 appearances with 13 starts and seven complete games. She has thrown a team-high 68.1 inning while allowing 49 runs on 88 hits for a 4.81 ERA
