IRVINE, Calif.--University of Hawai'i junior centerfielder/pitcher
Chloe Borges led UH with a .625 batting average while recording at least one hit, one run and an RBI in all three games -AND- she earned her first save of the season shutting down the rallying Matadors in the final three innings against CSUN to earn Big West Field Player of the Week honors on Monday. This is the first weekly conference honor of Borges' career.
Overall, Borges went 5-for-8 at the plate and drove in a team-high six RBI to help lift Hawai'i to its first conference series sweep since 2022. She recorded a 1.375 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base percentage for the weekend.
The West Jordan, Utah native went 2-for-3 and knocked home a 2-RBI single as the Rainbow Wahine took the first contest over the Matadors, 11-2. Borges blasted a solo home run in game two as well.
In the circle, the junior, who started the series finale in centerfield, re-entered the game in relief of UH starter
Addison Kostrencich. After a strikeout, CSUN loaded the bases with two outs, and Borges recorded a check-swing strikeout to snuff out CSUN's comeback efforts. From there, Borges shut the door and only allowed one more hit, a walk and then ending the series with her third strikeout of the game. Borges hit for herself while pitching and launched a two-run bomb in the sixth to provide some needed insurance runs to secure the sweep.
In all, Borges shut down CSUN in the final three innings, allowing just two hits with two walks and three strikeouts. On offense in the finale, she went 2-for-2 with three RBI and her second homer of the series.
