SPOKANE, Wash. – The Hawai'i women's track and field team kicked off the MPSF Indoor Championships with a record-setting opening day Sunday in which it claimed three individual titles and set three program records.
The Rainbow Wahine head into Monday's final day of the meet in second place with 61.8 points, looking to turn in the best finish by the program at the MPSF Championships for the second time in three years. UH also posted 16 new program top 10 marks on Sunday.
Alyssa Mae Antolin defended her 200m indoor conference crown and lowered her UH record in the process with a 23.54. The Kīhei, Maui native held off UC Riverside's Raykiyat Olukoju with a strong push down the stretch and lean across the finish line to win by .05 seconds. Antolin also topped her 60m school record earlier in the day with a 7.51 in the prelims to qualify for Monday's final.
Helen Hoadley joined Antolin in both winning a conference title and setting a school record by taking home the MPSF pole vault crown. Hoadley posted a huge PR in the event with a mark of 4.10m, topping the previous school record of 4.01m that stood since 2016 (Tiziana Ruiz).
Outdoor high jump All-American
Lilian Turban claimed UH's third individual title, defending her indoor high jump crown with a mark of 1.86m. The Talinn, Estonia native posted the PR jump on her second attempt at that height, giving her the No. 11 mark in the country indoors this season and punching a ticket to the NCAA Championships.
Aside from the three individual titles, UH athletes turned in a slew of program top 10 performances and high finishes. The Rainbow Wahine posted the top three times in program history and put up 16 points in the 200m dash.
Amy Warrington came in fifth and posted the second-best time in UH history with a 24.23 while freshman
Isabella Kneeshaw came in seventh with a 24.27 to take over the No. 3 spot in school history.
The Rainbow Wahine sprinters also posted the top three times at UH in the 60m dash prelims. In addition to Antolin's school record, Kneeshaw earned a spot in the final with the No. 2 mark in program history in 7.58 while Warrington ran a 7.63 to move into the No. 3 spot, just missing out on a spot in the finals.
Sammie Gordon delivered a runner-up finish in the pentathlon with the No. 2 point total in school history with 3,861 points.
Catherine Touchette moved into the No. 8 spot on the UH top 10 list with 3,380 points, finishing seventh thanks to a pentathlon 800m UH record of 2:16.73 to also move into the No. 10 spot on the overall UH list. Touchette also set the facility record at The Podium for the pentathlon 800m.
Montserrat Montanes i Arbo led day one for the Rainbow Wahine throwers, finishing third in the weight throw with a big PR of 17.65m to take over the No. 2 spot all-time at Hawai'i.
The UH distance medley relay crew of
Keilah Wilkes,
Kristin Cook,
Carlin McFadden and
Emilie Kirk Langschwager took over the No. 4 spot at UH with a time of 11:55.16 to finish sixth while
Tania Tan posted the No. 7 indoor 5k time with a 18:14.97.
The Rainbow Wahine will wrap up competition at the MPSF Indoor Championships Monday morning beginning at 7 a.m. HT.
