Chakas Earns Second Career National Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Hawai'i outside hitter Spyros Chakas was named the AVCA Division I-II National Player of the Week for his standout performance last week in a two-match sweep of No. 5 Stanford.

Chakas averaged 5.43 kills per set on .550 hitting in the series. The Nea Smyrni, Greece native tallied a season-high 23 kills with only one error in 30 attempts in the rematch along with 15 kills, eight digs, and two blocks in the opener.

His 23-kill performance is the most by any player in a three-set match this season. On the year, Chakas currently ranks No. 3 nationally in both kills per set (4.29) and hitting percentage (.426).

The award is Chakas' second of his career and first by a Rainbow Warrior this season. Last season, he received the award after a season-opening series sweep of Ball State.

The Rainbow Warriors have the week off before returning to the court next week against Missouri S&T, Thursday, Feb. 22 and Friday, Feb. 23 at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
