KAPOLEI, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team has a share of the lead after the first two rounds of the Kapolei Invitational Wednesday at the Kapolei Golf Club.
The Rainbow Warriors fired a second round 1-over 289 and are 2-under 574 for the tournament and are tied with Miami (Ohio), who shot the low round of the day at 1-under 287 in windy conditions.
The tournament concludes with the final round on Thursday. UH will be seeking its first tournament win against a Division I field since 2004, when it captured the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate on O'ahu.
UH's
Anson Cabello and
Tyler Ogawa are two strokes off the individual lead at 2-under 142 and tied for fourth place. Texas State's Sakke Siltala and San Diego's Ryan Abuan share the lead at 4-under 140. The last Hawai'i golfer to capture a Division I tournament title was Skye Inakoshi at the 2016 John A. Burns Intercollegiate on Kaua'i.
Cabello carded the low round of the day for the Rainbow Warriors at 2-under 70 in which he posted four birdies during a seven-hole stretch. After a blistering 4-under 68 on Tuesday, Ogawa shot 2-over 74.
Josh Hayashida posted a second straight even par 72 and is tied for 11
th at 144 while
Dane Watanabe matched his first round 1-over 73 and is tied for 20
th at 2-over 146.
James Whitworth shot 76 and is tied for 65
th at 153.
