The Rainbow Warriors and Rainbow Wahine swim teams are returning off of a solid showing at the USC Invitational, with multiple wins and top-10 time performances.
Catherine Belyakov had a standout debut for the Rainbow Wahine winning the 100 backstroke and swimming top-10 times in the 200 and 400 IM events. The Duke transfer also helped the 'Bows to multiple top-three finishes in medley relay competitions. Belyakov's strong showing earned her Big West Athlete of the Week honors.
Ella Varga also made her UH debut earning a runner-up finish in the 200 backstroke with the seventh fastest time in the event (1:57.32) in Rainbow Wahine history.
The Rainbow Warrior squad of Victor Dagenais, Jordan Meacham, Milan Bukovics and Karol Ostrowski earned UH's first win this season in relay competition posting a time of 2:56.26 in the 400 freestyle relay. Ostrowski also won the 100 freestyle with a mark of 43.45 earning the Rainbow Warriors first win in individual competition.
The Rainbow Wahine Dive team returns to action for the first time since the Fresno State Invitational (Oct. 4-5). The 'Bows finished the invite with eight top-10 finishes including four top-three finishes in individual competitions. Freshman
Macie Wheeler placed top-three in every event she participated in which included the 1-meter, 3-meter and team springboard events.
The Rainbow Warriors dive team will make their first appearance of the season this weekend. UH's dive team consists of true freshman Daniel Crain, Juan Estaban Ramirez Tamayo and Brandon Shepherd.
Key losses from last year's team include standout divers Juan Gonzalez and Mackaby Pennington who each earned first team All-MPSF honors in the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform dive events along with multiple golds at the MPSF Championships. Pennington also claimed last season's MPSF Men's Diver of the Year honor.
